(July 18, 2024) Denon's latest offering is compact, versatile, and loaded with power. Sized at just 3.4" H x 8.5 W x 9.2" D, the Denon Home Amp is more than just a 2-channel amp; it carries wide-ranging wireless capabilities and onboard HDMI for use in media and entertainment centers.
At its core, the Denon Home Amp's muscle is a primary selling point. It boasts a beefy 100W of power per channel—more than enough to drive reasonably demanding speakers. Various sound modes, including Stereo, Direct, Night Mode, Virtual, and Dialog Enhancer, and a bass/treble EQ attenuation, can be used to flavor the amp's output, giving owners flexibility on the sound front. But input versatility might be the Home Amp's most alluring feature.
On the physical connection front, the Home Amp carries a single HDMI port for eARC and ARC audio sourced from a TV. It also has stereo RCA inputs for analog sources and both Toslink and USB (smartphone and NTFS/FAT32 devices) for digital. A single RCA out is at the ready for subwoofer duty, allowing owners to fatten up sound with better low-end capabilities.
Being a Denon product, it's no surprise that HEOS – Denon's wireless ecosystem – plays a central role in wire-free connectivity. HEOS allows for a whopping 64 zones of Hi-Res audio streaming when using other HEOS-enabled products, supporting ALAC, FLAC, and WAV files up to 192kHz/24-bit, as well as DSD 2.8MHz and 5.6MHz tracks. Owners can also stream using Bluetooth, Apple AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, and Amazon Music HD (24-bit 48kHz and up to 192kHz).
Locally stored music can be sourced via NAS/DLNA networked audio through Wi-Fi or wired Ethernet.
The fit and finish of the Denon Home Amp are befitting of its $799 price point. Its smooth black surfaces are rounded, and a stylish top-side venting surface is molded with eye-catching ripples. The front features touch-sensitive volume, playback, and quick selection buttons, along with a subtle indicator light.
