(September 26, 2024) Luxman is celebrating the release of its all-new L-505Z integrated amplifier, the latest addition to the company's Z Series of gear. This integrated amp blends decades of expertise with advanced technologies, presenting an entry-level ticket to Luxman's take on high-end audio. Priced at $5,995, the L-505Z builds upon the legacy of previous 505 models, offering improvements that cater to both analog and digital audio lovers alike.
The L-505Z is the result of Luxman’s decades-long quest to merge the benefits of negative feedback with the expressive, natural sound of non-feedback designs. The LIFES1.0 (Luxman Integrated Feedback Engine System) power amp stage takes Luxman’s technological prowess a step further, delivering incredibly low distortion for what the company says is a refined audio presentation. This power is delivered through a Class AB design, offering 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 150 watts per channel into 4 ohms, making it capable of handling demanding speaker loads with ease.
For precise volume control, the L-505Z features the LECUA (Luxman Electronically Controlled Ultimate Attenuator) system, which allows for detailed adjustments across 88 discrete steps while minimizing sound degradation. Shunning the use of a variable resistor, LECUA relies on a custom solid-state IC precision attenuator that's said to keep the signal clean and devoid of left/right tracking errors that can unintentionally shift the stereo balance as the user adjusts volume. A newly developed discrete buffer circuit ensures that the amplifier delivers robust signal integrity throughout, making the L-505Z a perfect match for audio purists seeking refined audio clarity.
The L-505Z also caters to vinyl lovers, boasting an improved moving magnet/moving coil phono preamp, easily selectable via a front-panel control. In addition to phono, the integrated amp is equipped with various connections, including balanced XLR inputs, RCA inputs, and a versatile headphone section featuring both standard 6.3mm and balanced 4.4mm Pentaconn jacks for enhanced stereo separation.
Aesthetically, Luxman remains true to its heritage. The amplifier's front panel showcases classic needle-style VU meters, now equipped with white LED illumination for easy monitoring. A 7-segment LED volume display offers an additional layer of convenience, allowing users to check volume levels from across the room. For added customization, both the LED display and VU meter lighting can be toggled via the supplied remote.
The L-505Z's robust build quality extends to its internal structure, which uses OFC (Oxygen-Free Copper) internal wiring and Luxman’s loop-less chassis design to reduce interference and improve signal transmission. The amplifier’s Beeline construction ensures that all audio signals follow the most efficient pathways, further enhancing sound fidelity.
With its refined design and advanced circuitry, the L-505Z is a prime example of Luxman’s commitment to delivering what's best classified as an "audiophile listening experience."
