(October 3, 2024) Focal has introduced Diva Utopia, a high-fidelity wireless, connected, active loudspeaker representing the culmination of five years of research and development. This latest model from the iconic French audio brand marks a significant step forward in combining pure hi-fi sound with the latest wireless technologies. As Focal’s first wireless offering, Diva Utopia embodies the brand’s philosophy of progress and innovation, blending advanced Naim electronics and patented Focal speaker technologies to deliver what's billed as a premium audio experience.
At the heart of Diva Utopia is its 3-way bass-reflex design, incorporating Focal’s signature ‘W’ cone drivers and beryllium ‘M’-profile tweeter. The tweeter, renowned for its clarity and precision, handles high frequencies, while four 6.5-inch midbass drivers provide detailed, distortion-free midrange. Four 6.5-inch 'W' woofers are arranged in a push-push configuration to ensure a robust and controlled bass response, even at high volumes. These elements combine to deliver an impressive frequency response from 27Hz to 40kHz, making it suitable for even the most discerning audiophiles.
One of the standout features of Diva Utopia is its Ultra Wideband (UWB) wireless technology, developed in partnership with Naim. This proprietary connection enables seamless, lossless audio transmission between the loudspeakers, with support for resolutions up to 96kHz/24bits, and an optional Hi-Res link cable can extend this to 192kHz/24bits for professional-grade sound quality. UWB ensures imperceptible latency and reliable connectivity, surpassing the performance of typical Bluetooth or Wi-Fi systems.
The loudspeaker's sleek design is equally as striking as its technical capabilities. Standing at 47.6" tall and weighing a substantial 141 lbs per unit, Diva Utopia exudes both elegance and robust construction. The speaker's body is made from a high-density molded polymer with structural reinforcements that minimize vibrations, ensuring sound clarity. The panels are finished in Grey Felt, a material chosen for its modern aesthetic and minimal environmental impact.
Focal has equipped Diva Utopia with multiple connectivity options, including HDMI eARC, optical, RCA, and USB inputs, allowing for seamless integration with various audio sources, from vinyl turntables to televisions. The system also supports streaming through Bluetooth 5.3, AirPlay 2, Google Cast, and UPnP, ensuring compatibility with major services like Spotify, TIDAL, and Qobuz. Moreover, the speaker is designed to fit into smart homes, offering control through Google Assistant, Siri, or smart home platforms like Control4 and Crestron.
For audiophiles seeking full-home audio solutions, Diva Utopia supports multi-room configurations and is easily controlled through the dedicated Focal & Naim app. This allows users to synchronize playback across up to 32 Focal & Naim streaming devices, creating a cohesive listening experience throughout their home.
Diva Utopia will be available in October 2024, sold exclusively through qualified stores in the Focal Powered by Naim network. Pricing is set at $39,999 per pair in the US and $51,999 per pair in Canada, hefty numbers that reflect Focal's position as a luxury, audiophile-grade manufacturer.
