After reading the below description, can anybody see WHY we cannot get a Sweep Sound out of our speaker?

We have tried multiple variables from digital to analog and still no sound. All components have been doubled in order to eliminate any faulty one, i.e. with & without soundcard PreSonus 24C, digital & analog interface with PC (MiniDSP & DAC), Two Active Speaker Brands (Genelec & JBL).

The first set up:
Laptop computer with Windows 11 (only used for making measurements)
Mic. Umik 1 calibrated plugged into laptop USB (Microphone works picks up sound )
USBa to MiniDSP Studio USB b
Digital out from MiniDSP Studio via XLR to speakers (active) Genelec 8361a

REW version 5.31.3

Settings under preferences in REW
Java – 48
Output Device – SHD speaker selected Output- set to Speaker, Output volume-set at 1.0
Input Device – Umik 1 volume set at .5
Sweep -12.0 (selected from REW)

Normally we have good sound from our speakers and MiniDSP studio, audio source is a home-built music server with Windows Server 2022 OS and Lynx AES16E card connected via AES/EBU from desk top computer to MiniDSP Studio.

The second set up:
We then tried analog with a separate soundcard.
Laptop computer Win.11
USB to PreSonus 24C, calibrated
XLR Condenser mic. EMM-6 with calibration to PreSonus
PreSonus to Antelope Zodiac Gold DAC via ¼ “ TRS to Analog In
Then analog out via XLR to JBL active speaker.

REW version 5.31.3
Settings under preferences in REW as above
Java – 48
Output Device – Zodiac Gold speaker selected
Input Device – Mic -Studio 24C
Sweep -12.0 (selected from REW)

We have used REW in the past 6 years ago with different speakers, both were active as well. We had no problems at that time with the set up.
Cheers, Susan

I did no change. I had figured they are talking about the USB stick with music on it as an input, not the USB that connects with the computer.

It still didn't work, no signal. I was able eventually to work an analog signal through the Genelecs, but the soundcard is a bit old M-Audio Fast Track - more finicky to calibrate. The MiniDSP studio also will drop out on the laptop so the REW doesn't see it, that meant having everything set then open the Studio quickly input the preferences and try a sweep - no go.

Well it seems that we have solved the issue, sort of! The problem was in the MiniDSP Studio that once I 'Refreshed' on the laptop is worked! We left it as we had other ranch work to be done, so switched out from the laptop back to our music server so we could listen to music. The next day switched back to the laptop (this is via a longer USB cord) wouldn't work again! Talked to DSP and they feel that switching back and forth is not recommended because of the time stamp on the preset that each computer puts on the DSP, plus the long USB cord might be an issue. Today I turned off the Studio, (which I had always done) attached the long cable turned on the laptop first then the Studio and BINGO we are in business. No drop out of the DSP, was able to complete the sweep without any problem! The other piece of info that I needed as well (which is in the instructions) was to make sure that my Windows sound setting recognized the output (studio/speakers) and the input of the Umik microphone, which then improved the sound sweep. Tomorrow we are hoping to add the subs to the set-up and complete another REW.
