Cataloging your DVD, Blu-ray, 4K, UHD collection?

Are you using a program to catalog your movie disc collection?

I'm looking for one. I only have about 400 discs, and now I use Kaleidescape for the most part for new movies or stream them if I don't want to pay too much for one that may not be an essential movie to me. I don't know if I'll buy many more, but I would like to organize my movies and start watching through them again.

I've searched a little, not too much, but found CLZ Movies and My Movies Pro to be two fairly popular choices to use.

CLZ is $50 annually for both Windows and Android (what I need).

MMP ... couldn't figure out the cost... confusing. I've emailed them to get clarification, but I think it will be less with a one-time purchase of Windows and Android, although upgrading Android every other year cost half of the app price.

I don't... they just sit alphabetized on shelving. BUT, I wish I had an app that categorized my films. The ideal would be an app that uses your phone's camera to scan a disc into a scrollable/sortable list with cover art, which is what My Movies Pro does. I'm not convinced the $10 a year is worth it, tho...

Both of the ones I mentioned use your phone for scanning. CLZ is 20 bucks a year for mobile only. MMP is 30 bucks a year for mobile, since you have more than 50 titles. Where you seeing $10?

I use Gentibus CD. Gentibus CD is Freeware.

I transferred from DVD to hard drive and just do import of the hard drive and I get a listing and from there, I can drill down to see the individual folders for the movies. Can also search to find the item I am looking for on what hard drive it is located for me to get to.

Not sure if this will fit your needs for individual dvd's but for me, it works perfectly for hard drives.

I thought I saw $10 a year in the App Store. But, maybe I misread… lemme check

I just track them through a simple Excel spreadsheet that I created.

It's easy to share with friends and the slicer makes it quick to jump to different titles. I have cells for DVD and Digital, but most of those are not logged yet. I also skipped the Laserdiscs.

On the to-do list is adding ratings for all the movies we watch, along with genre information, and maybe cover art.

This could be done in one of the many free spreadsheet options, as well. It's a little more work but gives you complete control.

Is there a program where you can scan the barcode on the case, and it organizes them for you in the program? I guess I need to search, huh? lol ... If there were something like this, I could organize them in the program, then I'd know how to organize them in my cabinet.

Edit: found this one: https://clz.com/movies/dvd-organizer ... It has a mobile app that can scan the case, then you can integrate it with the web version. Uses IMDB for info. 50 bucks annually. I might prefer one that I can buy one time and be done with it.

Here's one cabinet built into the wall, with GIK acoustic panels as doors. There's more in the other cabinet on the right, but probably only one row.

I’m using an app called MovieBuddy. I use it on my IPhone and IPad. It sinks to the cloud and syncs across my iOS devices. It was a one time fee of $5 in the App Store. Just scan discs to add them.

Blu-ray dot com also has an app., their app interfaces with their website. It also appears to be free.

I can see why that’s appealing… it’s the “work” side of things that would ultimately make it fail in my home.

Can you open that and use it on your phone?

MovieBuddy isn't available on Android, unfortunately.

I'm trying our CLZ right now and like the ability to edit it on my PC. After I get all my discs scanned and edited, I'll likely just continue with the Android app at 20 bucks a year, which is reasonable enough for me.

It's not really all that much work. When we get new movies, my wife reads them off and I add them to the list. A simple sort puts them in order.

I would think the free online version of Excel would work great for this, although I personally haven't used it. Google Sheets would probably work in a similar way. If I want to share it with friends for them to pick a movie, I'll either send them the file or print the list to a PDF.
