from tomhardware,

"Sony has announced it will end Blu-ray Disc media production in February, marking the end of its nearly two-decade run. Unfortunately, it will also mark the end of optical media storage for the company; as Sony said (machine translation), there won’t be a successor model to the Blu-ray. This end-of-production announcement also affects MiniDiscs for recording, MD data for recording, and MiniDV cassettes."

And so it begins... the fall of physical media discs. It will probably take some time, and perhaps when all but one drop, that last one may corner the remaining bit of the market and be able to survive.

Sadly, all good things must come to an end..

Cloud (streaming) is the way now...

Just to note: this is for recordable Blu-ray media, not Blu-rays that are used to distribute movies.

I did not catch that... probably not a big deal then huh?

Well, yes and no. Obviously, it's another nail in the coffin of physical media storage! I think the real marker of panic will be when Sony discontinues production of Blu-ray/4K BD players. Samsung and LG are already out. It's only a matter of time before Sony bows out too.

I agree, another nail in the coffin. Just a matter of time for that final nail.

Good news for Kaleidescape, since none of the streaming companies seem to think lossless video, or audio for that matter, is worth it.
