(February 22, 2025) Harman's Senior Director of Product Strategy & Planning (Luxury Audio) and friend of AV NIRVANA's community, Jim Garrett, is one of the industry's best when it comes to product knowledge and technical breakdowns. We caught up with Jim at Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2024 to experience a unique two-in-one Synthesis demo room, followed by a great conversation about JBL's Synthesis product line. He also gave us a sneak peek at two new JBL DSP Amplifiers, the SMA-4750 and SMA-8300.

This is your chance to step onto the floor at ISE 2025 and join us for a great conversation.

I have been unable to get support like HW/SW updates for my SDP-75 for over two years now. Emails and contact forms simply go unanswered. It took a dealer's intervention and escalation to get my last update and that was nearly three years ago. I'd be very hesitant to buy electronics (at least) from them again.

With JBL? That’s really surprising to hear. Have you contacted your dealer recently?

Not recently, on my list, some other Life things came up. I think JBL lost their key guy for SDP/Trinnov product support so the only way is to contact your dealer and have him advocate to JBL for you. That usually works though did not last time; it was a couple of weeks before Christmas, not surprised as sure people are out, but still... Forums are filled with complaints but hard to tell if it's any worse than other companies at this point.

Yeah, it's tough to get a good gauge by looking online because people mostly file complaints, not compliments. Right?

Hmmm. You know, right before Christmas is tough because of the holiday AND prep for CES. You might want to try and give them a call again. Hopefully, you'd find someone to connect with!

Agree that posts tend to be negative as that's what gets people riled up enough to post (case in point...) Can't ascribe it just to Christmas as that was the third time in the past 18 months or so and was at various times through the year. Each time was several emails/contact posts over 30~60 days and the only time I got a response was after contacting my dealer who was able to reach someone to follow up. Not sure what is up right now. I have not tried again recently as it is working "OK" so I am not dying for the updates. Hoping to get the HDMI fix (that is the only real problem right now) and try the new wave forming SW.

There have been rumors of Trinnov incorporating JBL Synthesis features, which would be awesome, especially if Trinnov takes over tech support. Love to see the link strengthened as it is such a great combination/collaboration (in my very biased opinion).

That’s definitely no good :-/

As for wave forming… I don’t think that’s available as a download for JBL gear at the moment. I was told they are currently happy with their own approach.
