7.4.4 Home Theater Room - Updated

The Lair - Completed initial home theater build

Description

This is probably the 5th iteration of my home theater space since I first built it out in early 2021. Started off with entry level speakers and have worked my way up to what may very well be end game speakers for me. Lots of lessons learned over the past few years. Thanks to Todd, et al, at AV NIRVANA, have learned a lot. The room is approximately 22' x 13'. I stripped the room down to the bare concrete floor and open ceiling. Ceiling was insulated well after I mounted and wired the four ATMOS in ceiling speakers and the surround back speakers (gear details below). The equipment rack is made from Cedar planks I sourced locally and is a nod to my late wife who loved cedar. During the build of that rack, I found I didn't need the top shelf of the front section, so that became a live edge shelf to the right of the TV for pictures. For seating, I chose Valencia Tuscany XL in a 3-chair configuration. They have a little extra room over the normal Tuscany chairs and are, like all the Valencia's, very comfortable.

Love the setup. Also, like Cedar planks you used there for the equipment rack.
Thanks, appreciate that. This was my first attempt at a home theater set-up, going to enjoy it for the next year then see what I need to do to improve it. Problem is, now I'm noticing a lot of AV gear and wondering what it would sound like in my room ... and so it goes! Love this hobby!!

Great equipment list. Higher quality than most first-attempt theaters - especially my original setup! Enjoy!

I also love the live-edge shelves, though they'd stick out like a sore thumb in my new home.

Thanks, thought the live edge selves provided a good look and certainly maximizes airflow. Although the XPA Gen 3 amps run cool, which I like.

What's the first movie you enjoyed with this setup?

I love seen other people's setups, it reminds me of the work and the joy that comes with building something you love. It makes me want to go fire up my own setup to enjoy it as well.

Nice gear! Those SVS ultras are going to serve you well! Wonderful speakers!

Have you thought about adding some acoustic treatments on the walls?

Excellent!

Thank you, the first movie I watched was the final, directors cut of Apocolypse Now ... awesome movie and sound track. I knew it was going to be good when in the opening of the movie, during the opening credits, I heard helicopter blades traveling in slow motion from the top rear left moving slowly across my room to the top front right ... passing right over my head ... talk about a way to start off. Good movie. Have watched many movies since. Love the 7.2.4 ... sometimes it sounds like I'm sitting in the rain, but not getting wet. Enjoy!!

Thank you. Yes, the Ultras are great speakers. I tried the Ultra towers upstairs in my 2-channel system. Paired with a PrimaLuna EVO 300 Tube Integrated amp, the Ultra towers sounded great on their own without a sub, integrated in to the HT, they are exceptional. I'm running GoldenEar Triton Fives with a ForceField 3 sub upstairs with my 2.1 channel set up and like them very much as well. I'm a big fan of GoldenEar, my upstairs 5.1 has their SuperCinema 3D XL for L/C/R and Aon 2s for surrounds, along with the FF2. Currently fighting the urge to buy their Triton Two + ... and so it goes! WRT acoustic treatment, I've been enjoying the HT as is, but I do intend to experiment with acoustic treatment placement in the coming months. Thanks again.

I'm a big fan of GE as well. Wonderful gear!
