Acoustic treatment for the 1st time and some beginner questions

Hello together,
first I must say after 12 years I've decided to optimize my little studio corner. Just for little improvement and getting better in my sound.
So I have just a minimum experience with acoustic treatments. It was ever a topic I have wanted to get in touch.
As you can see in the pictures and the sketch, the situation is not the best. But I can't change the situation. It's the only place in my apartment to integrate a little studio corner.
I use this corner for my music projects...primarily for mixing and mastering my own music or for some local bands.
The greatest issue I have noticed till now is obviously the low end. Therefor I have checked them via headphone and in my car.
My Monitors are JBL SLR305 (frequency range: 43 Hz – 24 kHz
I must say, after a lot of research via Google and on YouTube I'm not satisfied about the information I get...scratching mostly on the surface.
As you can notice on my curves I have a big one at 90-100 Hz and 150 Hz. Measured with a condenser mik Superlux ECM999
I have already moved my speakers. The result is not getting better.

What my main question now is:
  • So far I understand is that peaks could be reduced via treatment. But what is about the dips?
  • What causes the dips and peaks? How can I find it out the reason for this issue?

Where are you placing the microphone in relation to the speakers... where are your ears when listening?

Assuming you are listening and measuring at the desk, which would be very close to the speakers, it should be similar to a nearfield response, which would be smoother.

Have you thought about stands and getting them spread out a little more and closer to the wall and corners, which should give you more room-influenced bass?

Maybe some of the guys with studios can offer more assistance.

I have thought about stands...but are they helpful?
I don't like trial and error. I wanna know what I must do to get a better result.
Must say my budget is really low....

Hi @headbanger70... A room mode can cause both peaks and nulls (dips) in frequency response. When two or more waves meet and are in phase with each other at a specific frequency, you will have a peak in response. When they meet and are out of phase with each other, they cancel and you end up with a dip or null in response...

It looks like you have little to no acoustic treatments in your room... Here is a good reference about room treatments http://arqen.com/bass-traps-101/placement-guide/ Lots of great information there...

If you are doing all of your mixing/mastering in the box you could tame some of your issues with Room correction DSP/EQ...

It is well worth the time to watch...

Another thing to consider, other than a flat room response, is reverb time... In studio control rooms, a reverberation time of about 0.15 to 0.3 seconds is considered ideal. In recording rooms, the reverberation time rarely exceeds 0.5 seconds...

For home studio go to Acoustics Insider web site and YouTube. That’s exactly what he covers. He also has plans for DIY absorbers. Also recommend the webinars by Anthony Grimani on Audioholics snd AVProEdge. Although that’s more for home Theater acoustics
