AES Timeline for Audio

The first commercial radio broadcast was in 1921. Almost a century ago. Think about that!

Many amazing technology dates happened far before I thought they would have, like Denon doing 18 bit digital in 1971!

Pretty amazing stuff there... had no idea Yankee Doodle was around in 1878 and put on record.

You probably remember most of those events don't you Leonard? :heehee:

Just remember, young man, you are right behind me. And looking at how much you barbecue your arteries may be older.

1940 - Walt Disney's "Fantasia" is released, with eight-track stereophonic sound.

pretty cool milestone.

How far we've come (thankfully ;-)

1910: Enrico Caruso in the first live broadcast from the Metropolitan Opera, NYC.

Enrico Caruso? The opera singer? This is the music that drove Colonel Sherman T. Potter bonkers in the M*A*S*H* episode, Heal Thyself. Stuck bunking with Major Charles Emerson Winchester III because of the mumps, Col. Potter eventually winds up flinging the record outside the tent (IIRK). That's amusing to me because I'm as much of a fan of opera music as I am of rap.
