(November 13, 2024) Boston-based Andover Audio has unveiled SpinBase 2 (Buy on Amazon), the latest iteration of its award-winning turntable speaker system. Maintaining the stylish simplicity of the original SpinBase, the new version ups the ante with a sophisticated heathered fabric wrap and Andover’s signature main control knob. Its compact form remains unchanged but now offers even greater sound quality, making it a standout in turntable-specific audio systems and setting a new benchmark for effortless setup and high-fidelity performance.
“At the heart of the SpinBase design is our patented IsoGroove technology, originally created for our flagship Andover-One all-in-one record player,” explains Bob Hazelwood, Andover’s Director of Engineering and Product Development. “This groundbreaking technology eliminates feedback, allowing our SpinBase speakers to be stacked directly under the turntable without compromising sound quality. We’ve listened carefully to our customers over the past four years and incorporated their feedback to make SpinBase 2 an even more compelling offering, enhancing both its sonic performance and visual appeal.”
The SpinBase 2 makes enjoying vinyl a breeze, offering expanded connectivity options that enhance the listening experience for modern users. With the ability to send and receive Bluetooth signals, it opens the door to untethered listening, whether connecting to wireless speakers or streaming from compatible devices. In addition to Bluetooth capabilities, SpinBase 2 boasts an array of inputs, including Phono, Line, Optical Digital, and USB for flash drives, allowing easy integration with various sources.
Controlling the SpinBase 2 is equally effortless, thanks to a full-function IR remote for adjusting bass, treble, and volume. A discreet four-character LED display hidden behind the grille provides command confirmation while maintaining a clean design. The side-mounted headphone jack offers convenient personal listening access. Under the hood, Andover’s Dual Direct Drive amplification system powers each woofer and tweeter independently, providing richer and clearer sound than the original model’s passive crossovers. The speaker’s 270-degree driver array is arranged to offer a wide, immersive soundstage, with two 13⁄4″ x 4″ oval woofers and 3⁄4″ silk-dome tweeters delivering a frequency range of 65Hz–20kHz. A selectable high-pass filter increases output SPL when paired with a subwoofer, offering more versatility.
Visually, the SpinBase 2 has been refined with premium cloth grilles and a choice of black or white finishes to complement the entire Spin Collection, including the SpinSub subwoofer (Buy on Amazon), SpinDeck 2 turntable (Buy on Amazon), and SpinStand (Buy on Amazon). An integrated AC power supply eliminates the need for an external transformer, streamlining setup. For users seeking system expansion, the SpinBase 2 includes line-level outputs for additional speakers or a subwoofer, and it supports wireless transmission to Bluetooth-equipped headphones or speakers. Pairing the SpinBase 2 with the SpinDeck 2 turntable offers a straightforward and high-quality playback solution, and the optional Songbird-series WiFi Streaming adapter allows access to high-resolution streaming services and internet radio.
The Andover Audio SpinBase 2 is available for pre-order in black and white finishes, with an expected delivery in December. MSRP is $349, and it can be purchased directly through Andover Audio’s website or participating retailers.
