I recently came across an article on howtogeek showcasing the benefits of using Bias lights?

Anybody here using them?

Are they really worth it?

I personally never used it so I am curious to see if anybody here is using and if it is actually worth using?

Any thoughts?

Yes, I have a light in behind my display in the living room and it helps (in my opinion) with less eye strain. It's an led 5k bulb and looks just fine. I have a led rope light in behind my screen also but the jury is out on the benafit of that givin how large a screen it is so it fills my entire front wall

Thanks for the details Tony. I am considering one but since I have a 75 inch TV, it will take a lot of of those LED lights. lol.

I am just trying to justify the cost vs benefits. :)

Just use some LED rope light that are 5k in color. Home Depot, Lows and even Ikia have them.

Thanks for the details. I will have to check it out.

I used one behind a Pioneer plasma in my first home theater room... creates a neat effect. Definitely give it a try!

When searching I see you can get single colors but there is something available that changes colors according to the picture. I wonder if this is better, where it changes with the color of the screen?

I'm not versed in the science behind color versus 6500K white light...but the color option is said to make it appear as if a screen is bigger. But, it would create a situation where bias lighting is constantly changing, which is different than having a constant lighting in the background.

I wonder which is better? Single color all the time or one that changes along with the picture?

Based on my understanding, a constant light is better (easier on the eyes).

Thanks Todd. I will continue my research. :)

I used to have a black light behind my CRT back in the day. No supporting science here, though, it just looked cool.

I used a bias light when I had a 70" Vizio that had...let's say...less than stellar black levels. The bias light definitely helps with perceived contrast. However, since getting a much better TV (Sony 940D) the bias light was not needed for the added contrast and was just more distracting than anything.

Thanks for the update Alan. That is interesting aspect (distracting) that I didn't think of.. I only thought of the positives.. I guess I have to consider the negatives as well. :)

Thanks for the link. I went to amazon and lot of positive reviews.
