(November 24, 2019). Bluesound’s latest BluOS 3.12 firmware update (available today) adds the option of a Stereo Surround mode to Pulse Soundbar 2i and Powernode 2i models. Borrowing technology from its sister brand, NAD, this mode mixes two-channel content into an immersive presentation by recruiting the rear surrounds of a home theater group.

According to Bluesound, Stereo Surround “extracts the natural ambiance present in nearly all well-produced stereo recordings. It does not synthesize any ambiance or other sonic elements and thus remains truer to the sound of the original recording than most other home entertainment surround options.”

Matt Simmonds, Bluesound Product Manager, adds: “More and more customers are looking for high-quality, wireless, surround sound options for everyday listening. Using Stereo Surround provides customers a subtle but highly natural and believable ambiance from the surround channels, creating an immersive experience even when playing two-channel content.”
