Is it possible to add music files to rew and create an average response so I can use them for mastering and checking my mix with the averages for audio mastering targets etc.
It is possible, though not really what REW is aimed at. If the tracks you want to analyse are available as WAV files you can drag them onto the RTA with the averaging set to Forever to get the content of each channel in each file then all of those could be averaged on the All SPL graph.
I was thinking I can generate an impulse response from a selection of masters I find that have good spectral balance I can average out and compare in my mixes in my DAW.
It would be a frequency response rather than an impulse response in that case. I'm not competent to offer any advice on mastering, better trying a dedicated forum for that. The long term average spectrum shape depends on the type of music and its content, however.
