Positioned as a high-lumen addition to Epson’s Q-Series, the QS100 delivers a peak brightness of 4,500 lumens (color and white, measured separately via IDMS and ISO standards), making it suitable for daytime viewing and environments with ambient light. At its core is Epson’s 3-chip 3LCD laser array with 20,000 hours of operating life, a proprietary QZX Picture Processor, and a 32-bit engine that handles contrast enhancement, HDR tone mapping, and color accuracy. It supports HDR10 and HLG content with 10-bit color processing and dynamic tone mapping that automatically adjusts frame-by-frame to preserve highlight and shadow detail – a vast improvement from past HDR controls found on Epson projectors.
Like other members of the Q-Series, QS100 uses pixel-shifting technology to support native 4K content. However, this version of pixel shifting is different than the quad-shifting technology unveiled during the Q-Series fall launch. Dubbed "PRO UHD," the QS100 relies on a single pixel shift per frame that, technically speaking, supports only half of 4K resolution at once. Though it's important to note this shift occurs so quickly, the naked eye is none the wiser. Some may question Epson's insistence on relying using pixel shifting to achieve 4K resolutions, but the reasoning is relatively simple: brightness. Relying on a shifting 1080p imager allows Epson's engineers to squeeze more lumens from their designs, thus giving installers the ability to use these products in rooms with high levels of ambient light.
Epson's UST lens design allows the QS100 to project an image up to 160 inches while sitting just a few inches from the wall. For those counting, that’s a screen size well beyond what even the most ambitious flat panels can deliver—and it doesn’t require rearranging the room or blacking out the windows. Quite incredible, right?
The QS100’s form factor reflects a shift toward more discreet installation options. Available in matte black or white, the cabinet is designed to minimize reflections and fit naturally into modern living spaces. Epson has partnered with Salamander Designs for UST-compatible cabinetry, and the QS100 also supports ceiling and wall mounting via a custom Epson mounting bracket with adjustable depth controls for precise screen sizing.
From a connectivity standpoint, the QS100 checks all the integrator boxes. Dual HDMI 2.0 ports support HDCP 2.3, ARC/eARC, and Consumer Electronics Control (CED). Professional control is available through RJ45 and RS-232 ports, with full compatibility for Crestron, Control4, and PJLink. The projector is also ISF certified, meaning it’s ready for professional calibration tailored to your environment—whether that’s a dark theater or an open-concept family room with south-facing windows.
Notably absent from the QS100 are built-in speakers and an onboard streaming platform. This is intentional. The QS100 is designed as a pro-level component, one that expects to be paired with an AVR or powered speakers and external sources like a streaming stick, UHD Blu-ray player, or media server. It’s a choice that gives integrators full control over audio and source configuration without forcing compromises.
The Epson QS100 is available now in matte white or matte black for $4,999 through authorized dealers. Each unit comes with a three-year limited warranty, two-day full-unit replacement, and lifetime technical phone support.
