(February 15, 2024) Epson has announced a new in-house refurbished program that gives buyers access to like-new, high-end Epson technologies for savings. Launching as the "Epson Certified ReNew" program, the company says products will range from projection, printing, and scanning solutions. Each product will undergo a unique, multi-stage process to prep for sale. In fact, buyers should expect Certified ReNew purchases to reflect the same quality standards as new products, carrying the same limited warranty that all customers receive.

“Available exclusively at Epson.com and Epson.ca, the Epson Certified ReNew program offers a substantial benefit for consumers looking to buy great Epson products at a great price. And, with the Epson Certified ReNew Customer Promise, we ensure every product is brought to a like-new state, backing it up with the same warranty as any new product,” said Mike Isgrig, vice president, Consumer Division, Epson America, Inc. “The Epson Certified ReNew program underscores the importance of ‘reduce, reuse, recycle.’ Helping support a circular economy and keeping products out of landfills is a win-win-win for consumers, Epson and the environment.”

The program is anchored by what Epson calls "The Epson Certified ReNew Customer Promise," which essentially guarantees that any Certified ReNew product is thoroughly inspected and tested in Epson's own dedicated lab. Only new OEM parts are used during repairs, and all products are cosmetically cleaned and brought to Epson’s exacting like-new quality standards. They're then thoroughly tested to ensure 100% factory functionality before final packaging, including any standard manuals, software, associated cables, and brand-new boxes made from 100% recycled materials.

So, the question is: Does the program actually deliver notable savings?

We looked at one example, Epson's Home Cinema 5050UB 4K Pro UHD Projector. This particular model carries a retail price tag of $2,999 and can currently be found through a wide range of retailers, including Best Buy, Walmart, B&H Photo, and Epson's own web store. Amazon also carries the 5050UB in its own reburished webstore, promising products that are professionally renewed and sold with a guarantee – though specifics about the 5050UB's restoration process aren't detailed. Nevertheless, Amazon's refurbished price is $2,487.

That brings us to the Epson Certified ReNew price, which is $2,120 with free ground shipping. That's a significant savings over a new 5050UB and $367 less than Amazon's refurbished offering.

Looks to be a great value, indeed.
