(January 26, 2023) Yesterday, Bowers & Wilkins introduced its next generation of wireless noise cancelling earbuds. Nearly two years ago, we reviewed the original Pi7 model and found a bold, full-range sound backed by comfort and impressive noise cancellation capabilities. The new S2 series draws heavily from that design, while adding some notable improvements. Those include an active battery life of five hours, an increased Bluetooth range of 25 meters (82 feet), and access to new and exciting colors.
The included case offers a two hour quick charge capability that gives users an additional two hours of use, with a further 16 hours of charging available for the Pi7 S2 and 19 hours for the less expensive Pi5 S2. Additionally, the Pi7 S2's case doubles as wireless transmitter. Using the included mini-stereo to USB cable, owners can plug the case into any mini-stereo source (such as the type of jack you'd find in airplane arm rest), and transmit the analog signal to the earbuds. The Pi7 S2 also supports aptX Adaptive Bluetooth technology for support of 24-bit/48kHz high-res audio. Its younger sibling is no slouch, itself, supporting CD quality sound.
The Pi7 S2 is available in Satin Black, Canvas White, and Midnight Blue. The Pi5 S2 will initially ship in Cloud Grey, Storm Grey, and a purplish Spring Lilac finish. Later this spring, Bowers & Wilkins will introduce a
Sage Green color exclusive to the Pi5 S2 line. Pricing is $399 for the Pi7 and $299 for the Pi5, and both can be purchased now from bowerswilkins.com and select retailers.
