(March 21, 2024) Cambridge Audio and the DeLorean Motor Company have joined forces to marry audio and auto. The first product born from this union is a nod to the past with a reskinned version of a popular player, the Evo 150 DeLorean Edition.
Built upon Cambridge's Evo 150 all-in-one integrated amplifier and network player, the Evo 150 DeLorean Edition goes the extra mile, stripping down to bare metal with meticulously crafted, brushed bodywork and silver detailing that pays homage to the iconic DeLorean DMC-12.
“From Day One, the relationship between our two brands has been fuelled by a bold attitude and an emotional connection to the music we all love,” says James Johnson-Flint, owner of Cambridge Audio. “DeLorean evokes genuine passion and mirrors Cambridge’s approach to music in everything it does. This special edition of one of our most loved products reveals the bare bones of the Evo 150 in all its glory and reflects the design attributes that have made DeLorean iconic.”
The kit ships with interchangeable magnetic side panels for a change in style within seconds. Two DeLorean-themed panel options are supplied, allowing owners to take a nostalgic trip to the 1980s with an aesthetic that echoes the front grille and classic logos of the DMC-12, or head back to the future with brushed metal panels featuring the cutting-edge logo from the forthcoming DeLorean ultra-luxury sports car.
First launched three years ago, the Evo 150 line harnesses Hypex NCore Class D amplification for 150 watts per channel and ESS Sabre ES9018K2M DACs for high-quality digital-to-analog conversion. Its front panel houses a large 6.8” color LCD display and a dual-concentric rotary dial, with the original EVO 150 carrying interchangeable side panels featuring walnut wood and black Richlite options.
It's a feature-rich player loaded with digital and analog connectivity options, including an HDMI port for use with Audio Return Channel (ARC). It also carries a moving magnet (MM) phono stage, an asynchronous USB input, balanced XLR inputs, and two sets of speaker terminals for running two sets of speakers.
On the streaming front, Evo taps the power of Cambridge Audio’s StreamMagic and StreamMagic’s app control. Owners can access Bluetooth 4.2, AirPlay 2, Chromecast built-in, Qobuz, Roon Ready, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, and Internet radio.
The launch of the Evo 150 DeLorean Edition coincides with the announcement that VU meters will be added to the full Evo range of all-in-one players. That update will land via an over-the-air update sometime in May.
The Cambridge Audio Evo 150 DeLorean Edition is available for purchase now in North America and Asia, and in Europe during April. Its recommended retail price is £2099/€2499/$3199, available through cambridgeaudio.com and select retailers.
