Hisense 75" U9DG Dual Cell LCD/LED 4K HDR TV

We just received Hisense's first allocation of their new 75" U9DG Dual Cell LCD/LED 4K HDR TVs. These are the first and only Dual Cell TV available in the USA. It's Hisense's 2nd generation of Dual Cell display technology.

Very nice overall picture quality with over 2 million local dimming zones.

We test all of the TVs that go into our annual TV Shootout to ensure they are in the premium class of the three major brands and Hisense's 75U9DG made the cut and will be included in our September 12th 2021 TV Shootout Evaluation event.

Robert, can you give a rundown on Dual Cell?

Is this the first Hisense branded TV you've sold?

Dual cell is a brand new video digital display technology. The only TV brand that employees Dual Cell technology is Hisense and the U9DG is their 2nd generation and the first time they are offering a Dual Cell TV in the US. This is the first time we are selling Hisense products and we also brought in their UST projectors.

Dual Cell display technology has three layers, two are LCD that are sandwiched together. The front LCD layer is a native 4K LCD panel with a 2K LCD module directly behind that acts as the local dimming control of the tens of thousands of small LEDs back lights that are behind the 2K LCD panel. This gives the Hisense 75" U9DG over 2.1 million local dimming zones with excellent back light control and almost no blooming and excellent contrast.

This is a very big year in the advancement of video display technology. With premium MiniLED displays, larger and brighter OLED TVs, Hisense's new Dual Cell LCD/LED TV and excellent new video processors for the 2021 model year. All which add to the importance and value of our 2021 4K and 8K TV Shootout for all consumers and TV manufactures.

How are the viewing angles?

The off axis viewing performance is very good, not quite as good as an OLED TV, but reasonably close.

I'd love a chance to see this in action. With its vast number of zones, theoretically, we're talking about crazy good contrast along with excellent brightness. Looks like we're talking in the realm of 1,000 nits? So, not as bright as a straight LED/LCD set, but brighter than OLED with the benefit of blacks that should be better than LCDs with more traditional FALD.

Interesting innovation, for sure. I do wonder, tho, how much longer LCD technology will survive with miniLED gaining momentum.
