Hello there!

I'm still pretty new to using REW and appreciate you reading this very much. I'm building a stereo mixing room out of an old nursery and need any advice I can get towards acoustically improving the room.

I've built 3 absorption panels (2 ft. wide, 4 ft. tall, 6 in. deep of mineral wool) and have placed them at the early reflection points on the left, right, and rear wall. I also have a pack of mineral wool in the front-right-bottom corner as a temporary bass trap (4 ft. tall, about 1.5 feet deep either side). Bass trap builds are next on my list.

Using a Behringer ECM8000 I took several tests before and after acoustic treatment and have noticed no real difference in frequency response. Is this normal?

Attached are two mdat files (before and after), and a screenshot of the room sim. If you'd like photos of the room or anything else, let me know.

So, AV NIRVANA community, in all of y'all's wisdom, what would you recommend I do to improve my room?

Thanks a thousand!
Joseph

Not unusual in the least. Treatments reduce reflections and make a room sound more “dead.” There could be a noticeable change in frequency response in a room that goes from extremely “echoey” to extremely “dead,” but for most everything in between, there will be little to no change in frequency response.

REW has a number of different acoustics measurements to judge the effectiveness of treatments.

Regards,
Wayne

Hi Wayne!

Thanks for the reply! As you can probably tell, I've still got a lot to learn about room acoustics. Gotcha, so absorbing early reflections won't necessarily impact frequency response.

Thanks again!
