I am in the process of rebuilding the Ditton 66 studio monitors for my home stereo system. I am doing diaphragms right now and xovers after. My speakers connect to a McIntosh power amp and then a McIntosh preamp for the inputs. It is not easy to get access to the wiring so how do I set my speakers up to send the sweep tone when testing them? Do I disconnect the wring at the back of the speakers?

I have a Beringer ECM8000 and a PreSonus Audiobox96 - USB AudioBox USB Interface. I have watched many of the YouTube videos and they talk about creating a loop-back on channel two but I am missing the part of making the actual physical connection to the stereo speaker.

If my ECM8000 is a single channel omnidirectional mic using channel 1, and my reference channel is channel 2, why does the mic have to be planted in the middle of the two speakers and how do I get the test tone to come out of both speakers when I sweep them?

Thanks for anyone willing to set me on the right path here. I feel like a luddite

Hi @r042wal... No worries... What Computer and OS are you using? You would need to connect output from the computer you run REW on to connect to your McIntosh preamp input... What preamp is that? Does the preamp have RCA line inputs?

Hi Ddude003, thanks for getting back to me.

I have REW on my Lenovo laptop, Win 7. It's a McIntosh C48 and I have several RCA imputs available as I use XLR and digital on the preamp. I think the SACD is the only RCA input I use.

I am wondering if it would be easier to unplug the RCA from my SACD and patch in to there?

So the 3.5mm output is a stereo connector. Do I want to connect to the left and right channels of my preamp? If so I can plan for that and get fancy with some cabling.

Thanks once again.

Rob

Just looked at the McIntosh C48 manual... I don't see any reason you couldn't possibly use the USB input... Maybe need some fancy drivers for the laptop... Maybe you already have hooked up this way before to play music... Anyway, the 3.5mm stereo out to some RCA in would work (aux or cd)... Not sure how you get the SACD involved... The less in the signal path the better...

I would just unplug the two RCA connectors from the SACD and patch into that. It is difficult to get to the back of the preamp so it is just convenience. No SACD involvement other than stealing its cables.

Thanks! I have to look through my totes of cables I've collected over the years before I hit up Amazon :-)

Your welcome @r042wal... Have fun!!! :T

I got lucky with the cables, no Amazon :jump:

Nice... If you get a chance add your system to your profile... And maybe even add your system to the AV Showcase... Make yourself at home here @r042wal...

(FOUND IT PLEASE DISREGARD) How can I edit my default e-mail address? Could not find that in the user profile.
Thanks

I still have a technical problem and it relates to my PresSonus Audiobox USB 96. I need to make a connection to do a loopback on channel 2 I believe. My understanding from the YouTube videos is to take ch2 out and connect it to ch2 in.

The back of my Audioboc has MIDI IN and MIDI out. There is also a left & right 1/4" plug for main out. Beside that is a 1/4" phone plug. The front of the box has two XLR inputs and I have my Beringer in ch 1.

I seem to have two choices and not sure which way to go, Do I attach and XLR cable to ch2 on the front input and connect the other end into the 1/4" left channel main out on the back? Do I use the MIDI ina nd MEDI out instead and cable them together? I have attached a few pictures.

Thanks again.

You can't use MIDI for audio signals, it is a data channel. Connect the loopback output, likely your left main out, to the channel 2 input. You can use a TRS to TRS cable.
