"Import sweep recording" gives error "Data missing" even when generated by same REW version (Mac 10.12.6, REW 5.19b8 and REW 5.20)

Steps:

1. sig gen: save WAV file (L 16b 48K)
2. File: Import sweep recordings
3. Select either file saved in step 1 OR recorded WAV file (L 16b 48K)
4. Select L channel
5. "Data missing" error message pointing to mismatch with REW version used to save the file

I used 5.20, then found post saying use 5.19 for my OS. Both generated same error.

I think I am following the instructions properly, and have searched this site without success. What am I missing?
