(February 25, 2025) At ISE 2025, I met with Casey Clemens, Sonos, to break down the design and engineering behind the Arc Ultra soundbar. While the Arc Ultra was officially launched last October, this video provides a rare opportunity to see a stripped-down version of the soundbar, revealing what lies beneath its metal mesh exterior. We also discuss the Sub 4 subwoofer and its integration with an Arc Ultra system.
The Arc Ultra ($999) introduces Sonos’ "Sound Motion" transducer technology, designed to enhance bass response while keeping the soundbar’s profile slim. Delivering a 9.1.4 spatial audio experience, it features 14 drivers, including redesigned woofers and tweeters with waveguides to improve clarity and immersion. Dolby Atmos support and an upgraded Speech Enhancement mode allow for a more refined listening experience, while Trueplay tuning—now available for both iOS and Android—adjusts audio to fit the room. The soundbar’s curved, unobtrusive design ensures it blends seamlessly with larger TVs and modern interiors.
The Sub 4 ($799) builds on Sonos’ signature low-end performance with dual force-canceling woofers that minimize distortion and maximize deep bass impact. Enhanced processing power and improved WiFi connectivity ensure smoother integration with the Sonos ecosystem, and its flexible placement options make it easy to incorporate into any setup. For those seeking even more low-frequency power, the option to pair two Sub 4 units together provides a substantial bass upgrade.
