(February 14, 2025) McIntosh has unveiled the DS200 Streaming DAC, a new addition to its lineup designed for fans seeking high-fidelity digital streaming without sacrificing classic McIntosh craftsmanship. Engineered for those who already own a quality amplifier and preamplifier but need a high-end streaming component, the DS200 bridges the gap between convenience and premium sound quality.

Built for modern music enthusiasts, the DS200 integrates popular streaming technologies, including Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Apple AirPlay 2, Bluetooth, and Google Cast. It features dual Wi-Fi antennas and a Bluetooth antenna to anchor connectivity, as well as an Ethernet port for wired installations. Additionally, Google Assistant compatibility allows for hands-free voice control.

At the heart of the DS200 is McIntosh’s next-generation Quad Balanced 8-channel, 32-bit Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC), which, says McIntosh, offers wide dynamic range and low distortion. This high-performance DAC is also Roon Ready and Roon Tested, offering seamless integration with the Roon music player for a feature-rich listening experience with extensive metadata and curated playlists.

Beyond streaming, the DS200 is equipped with eight digital audio inputs, supporting high-resolution playback, including DSD512 and DXD up to 384kHz via USB. The coaxial and optical inputs handle up to 24-bit/192kHz audio, while an HDMI (ARC) input allows for two-channel playback of multi-channel audio formats from a television. Balanced and unbalanced analog outputs offer flexibility for integration into existing audio setups, while a Data IN port, Power Control ports, and an RS232 Control port ensure compatibility with other McIntosh components.

McIntosh says the DS200 is factory-set in fixed output mode but includes an option for variable output, enabling it to function as a preamp when connected directly to a power amplifier.

True to McIntosh’s signature design, the DS200 features a black glass front faceplate with rotary control knobs, an illuminated logo, and custom-machined aluminum end caps. It looks every bit like a McIntosh product, exuding the brand's luxurious, high-end appeal. It's also a hefty piece of gear, weighing a robust 20.5 pounds.

The DS200 will be available starting February 13 through authorized McIntosh dealers, with an MSRP of $4,000 USD. For more information, visit www.McIntoshLabs.com.

Okay... so I love the McIntosh look, but those buttons on the front...

What were they thinking? The designer must have melted several gummies in the coffee of those approving this design.

Those buttons do look a bit odd, now that you point it out.

Are we talking about a USB-C port?
No...it is a much better format than USB imo, and is seen on most high end DACs. I use it for my Jays Audio CD Transport to my Pontus DAC. It is much clearer than all the other DAC inputs on my setup. It comes in different formats...mine is a hdmi format (you can use a standard HDMI cable). I use a Audioquest clone cable as it was highly recommended cable. I have not tried other HDMI cables, but ai do know it sounds better on my CD Transport (the only piece I have with 12s).

Ah. I see!

Maybe it's an omission since the focus of this player is streaming? But, you make a good point.
