(February 28, 2023) PSB Speakers, hearables start-up Sonical, and MQA have joined forces to create a new category of Hi-Res audio headphones. Set to launch by Q1 of 2024, the headphones will carry PSB branding while featuring Sonical's software and app-friendly ear computing platform, and MQA's latest high-resolution audio streaming technology, SCL6.
Core technologies embedded in the headphones, including Social's CosmOS and Qorvo's Ultra-Wideband (UWB) Radio make it an extremely competent device. CosmOS, Sonical’s advanced operating system, runs on powerful low wattage processing cores while providing flexibility on both connectivity and computational fronts. It will host Qorovo's UWB radio technology to enable higher data rates and extremely low latency. That, combined with Antennaware's UWB antenna, will deliver high-quality audio without signal loss issues associated with body blocking.
Canada-based PSB Speakers, a pioneer in psychoacoustics and an early brand to create audiophile grade wireless headphones, will innovate through deep relationships with Sonical and MQA to push the boundaries of mobile listening. The final design will utilize MQA’s new technology, SCL6,a time domain-based codec that fosters a premium streaming experience. Developed by industry veteran and MQA founder, Bob Stuart, SCL6 ensures high-resolution sound even at low data rates.
“Our use of the CosmOS platform to make the world’s first software defined wireless headset and the inclusion of MQA’s adaptive wireless codec helps set a new benchmark for a high resolution, mobile high-fidelity product. We believe this product underscores what Paul Barton and the PSB team have accomplished over the brand’s 50-year history in the pursuit of audio excellence for listeners at home and now on the move,” says Gordon Simmonds, President and CEO of Lenbrook Industries, PSB Speakers’ parent company.[/prbreak][/prbreak]
