Rotel has announced the DX-3, a compact yet power-packed headphone amplifier, digital-to-analog converter (DAC), and preamplifier, designed to deliver high-fidelity audio performance in a sleek form factor. Marking Rotel’s entry into the personal audio market, the DX-3 is built for discerning listeners who demand premium sound but want to save on space.
The DX-3 is engineered around the ESS Sabre ES9028PRO DAC, an 8-channel design optimized for precision audio conversion. It supports high-resolution formats, including PCM and DSD up to 32-bit/384kHz, offering access to high levels of detailed. A key feature is its adjustable gain control, allowing users to optimize output for different headphone impedances, whether using low-sensitivity planar magnetics or high-efficiency dynamic drivers. The unit offers both single-ended (6.35mm) and balanced (4.4mm) headphone outputs, catering to a wide range of listening preferences.
Beyond headphone amplification, the DX-3 serves as a preamp with both RCA and XLR outputs, allowing it to connect directly to power amplifiers or active speakers. It also functions as a standalone DAC, seamlessly integrating into home audio setups. Connectivity includes USB, coaxial, optical, and Bluetooth with aptX HD support, ensuring compatibility with modern and legacy sources.
The DX-3’s industrial design departs from traditional Rotel aesthetics, featuring a compact, minimalist chassis available in black or silver. The front panel houses a full-color display, a precision-milled volume knob, and a user-friendly interface. It also comes with an aluminum remote control for convenient operation.
Shipping begins in March 2025 in Europe and the UK, with global availability to follow. The DX-3 is priced at $1,499. For more details, visit www.rotel.com.
