Separate source and measurement computer

If I record on my playback system the microphone picks up quite a lot of 50Hz noise. So I'm considering just using an unconnected laptop to record while the regular system produces measurement tones.

Would two instances of REW on separate computers work fine, provided I start playback/measurement somewhat simultaneously? Does REW require special setup to make this work?

I guess I'll know soon enough, but maybe someone had experience with this.
 
Sorry, but you didn’t give us any reference as to what the “record system” and “regular system” are. Are you talking about two computers? And if so what kind? (desktop, etc.)

What you suggest should work fine. The sweep settings in the two systems must be exactly the same. For it to work, the "analysis" computer's sweep must be started manually at just the right point in time to be looking for that sweep as it is coming from the "source" computer.
 
Similar requirement came up on another thread this evening, easiest is to generate a sweep with a timing reference (as described in "Generating the sweep signal" here), then you can play it with anything that can play a WAV file. Tick the "Wait for timing reference" box on the Measure dialog of the computer doing the measuring, hit Start Measuring then hit play on the computer generating the signal.
 
Yes, two computers, one that is connected to mains and one battery powered. Swapping the microphone while the sound source REW had the measure dialog open was no success. Creating and using measurement sweep files was painless. Eventually there was not much difference in 50Hz pickup between systems. Sometimes it results in a 50Hz null, sometimes a peak. I think I'll just ignore it for now.
