Show Reporting & Reviews

There will always be more to the story with regard to any review or report that one reads or hears. And there will always be expectations that we bring to anything we evaluate or experience. One thing that you will find at avnirvana.com is that we try to be honest about those expectations, and we also try to put things in perspective, separating facts and measurements from personal experience and perception.

When reporting on a show with hundreds of products, you get a glimpse of what we experience, and these have to be taken in context. When a product does not do what we expected, due to prior experience or reports from others, WE are going to report that experience just as honestly as when we are impressed, even if it might not be the popular line or what someone we know wants to hear.

Experience is what it is, and you will get honest descriptions from us. But remember, our perception and experience is worth what you pay for it, or two cents, whichever is less...if you try to make more of it than it is. When you keep it in context, hopefully it is worth your time to read.

Refreshing to hear there's no hidden agenda at AV NIRVANA. And if past performance is any indication of future worth, I think the staff is poised to soar.

Thanks. Our agenda is to have fun and share experiences and knowledge. We try to be fair when doing it. People often try to make something out of comments that was not intended. If one reads an listens to understand rather than to find a point to argue, we all benefit. We won't always make vendors happy, but we will be fair and try hard to keep things in perspective.

I can buy into the fact that some readers inject unintended meanings into comments. Some of them seek to undermine the topic at hand with sidebar arguments that have little to no value-added content. Those are the people we ignore or ban. Others genuinely misinterpret content. Those are the ones we correct and nurture.

Having read many articles and posts by AV NIRVANA's staff, I can honestly say I believe they proofread well, and choose their words carefully. But they're only human, so questionable phrases will be overlooked and (slightly) inaccurate words will be used. So words can still cloud reception of the intended message even though extra care went into their delivery. That's where your point of reading to understand comes in - an open mind is a welcome mind! Understanding is enhanced when readers temper their belief system with real-world references. For instance: A reader who has followed a particular reporter/reviewer is familiar with their preferences, so should be able to filter out certain biases in order to arrive at a conclusion. A reviewer who prefers a lively top-end may very well write a very different article than one who does not. Biases aren't always explicitly stated, so such read-between-the-lines tips are helpful to keep in mind.

EDIT: Toned-down absolutes into opinion!
