During December of that year, Sony launched its original PlayStation for $299, which was frequently found at US retailers as part of a $400 bundle that included a single game and a memory card. PlayStation went on to smash historical console sales numbers, blowing past 100 million units sold, riding the success of titles such as Crash Bandicoot, Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy, and the ultra-popular Gran Turismo.
Sony has since released three iterations of the PlayStation, recently announcing it has sold 500 million units across all four generations of the platform. To celebrate, the company is releasing a special “Limited Edition Bundle” that includes a PS4 Pro Console with a 2TB hard drive, a Dualshock 4 wireless controler, a Playstation Camera, and a Vertical Stand. The console (like the controller) is crafted with a special translucent blue material, and proudly wears a front-mounted copper plate engraved with its limited edition serial number. Some serial numbers, according to Sony, have special significance (such as 01115, which matches the North American launch date of the PlayStation 4 on November 15,, 2013).
Sony says only 50,000 units will be sold worldwide, in addition to separately packaged Limited Edition DualShock 4 controllers ($74.99 each) and a Gold Wireless Headset 500 Million Edition ($119.99).
