The original master recording on Blu-ray is the LPCM version, the recording studio standard. Dolby TrueHD and dts Master HD Audio are the optional storage algorithms that apply a small amount of compression to save space on the disc to be devoted to the video.

When you select either one, the full LPCM original soundtrack is restored for the trip downstream to your preamp or AVR where Dolby or dts post-processing equalization is added to enhance the special effects in movies. All Hi Res PCM DACs with HDMI throughput can play back the original LPCM original without further embellishment, always strive to make native LPCM and PCM your listening preference for the most neutral and natural sound of the original recording.
