(January 23, 2025) StormAudio continues to refine and expand its offerings in high-end audio processing with the unveiling of significant hardware and software updates. The new Advanced Decoder (ADEC) and a host of other innovations aim to enhance flexibility, performance, and ease of use for both integrators and audiophiles alike. These updates will roll out across the StormAudio lineup, further cementing the brand’s reputation for future-ready, upgradeable processors.
Central to StormAudio’s announcement is the introduction of ADEC, the company’s next-generation decoding technology. Designed with advanced dual-core DSP and ARM processors, ADEC delivers improved processing power for an immersive audio experience. The entire decoding codebase has been rewritten, enabling faster switching times—up to 2.5 times quicker—and ensuring compatibility with the latest audio formats like Dolby Atmos, DTS:X Pro, Auro-3D, MPEG-H, and Sony 360 Reality Audio. This combination allows precise spatial positioning for an immersive and accurate soundstage.
ADEC supports up to 35 channels, making it ideal for sophisticated home theaters with multi-channel configurations, and achieves ultra-low latency and perfect synchronization across channels, ensuring seamless playback in demanding setups.
StormAudio is also transitioning to the latest Hyperstream IV ESS Sabre DAC, replacing older preferred DACs that have reached end-of-life.
Complementing the hardware advancements, StormAudio says it plans to release a significant software update in early Q2 2025. Key features include improved equalization functionality for more precise audio calibration, new upmixing settings for greater adaptability across content types, and multi-way subwoofer management integrated into the StormEasy wizard for streamlined setup procedures. Enhanced output mapping and improved latency management are also planned, ultimately simplifying configurations and ensuring tighter synchronization, making system setup and calibration more intuitive while providing professionals with the tools needed to handle advanced use cases.
Demonstrating its commitment to long-term value, StormAudio ensures that the ADEC and DAC upgrades will be compatible with existing models, including its ISP Evo, ISP Elite, ISP Core 16, and ISR Fusion. Even older models, such as the Focal Astral and Bryston SP4, running StormAudio firmware, will benefit. This approach reinforces the brand’s philosophy of supporting its customers without requiring full system overhauls.
