(April, 2025) Another fortnight has passed, and we're back with another episode of HTNR! This one is bubbling with hot news from the likes of Sony, Epson, Kaleidescape, SVS, Just Video Walls, AVPro, Klipsch, and more! We also blast back in time with a trip to one of my favorite decades - the 1970s - for a look at some tech that forever changed access to content in the home.

Many thanks to both of the show's exclusive advertising sponsors: madVR Labs and SVS! Please click on their links and go check out what they have to offer.

Did we hire The Rock to do these or something?

I think I can get my face on there!

@Travis Ballstadt - I'm just took the plunge and bought a high speed SSD. I ran out of room on my fastest external drive (I believe its 2800mbps transfer). Had to use an older one. Took – and I'm not joking – 8 hours for my Mac to render and export the podcast video. Granted, it has a ton of moving parts... but, talk about painful! Not sure what happened, but I'm bringing in the OWC Envoy Ultra Thunderbolt 5. There's nothing worse than grinding away on a slow peripheral.

Don't even get me started on hard drives. A live look at my desk's current situation, I have about 110TB here sitting on my desk, trying to choose a NAS with 10Gbps connection so I can get rid of all of this and put it in a closet and still be able to edit off of it without moving stuff around.

You’ve got me beat there… I have 5TB in external… with 4 incoming… though, you’re projects must be way more demanding.

Do you save all of your footage and projects? Or do you delete and move on?

I don’t save everything but try to maintain an archive.

Short film projects I save everything. Concert films I save everything. Product reviews I save the b-roll.

I’m also shooting in Blackmagic Raw at 6K so the files are relatively massive.

Yeah… you’re operating in a completely different stratosphere than I am. Though, the FCPx file sizes seem to grow exponentially while I work on them!

You can shrink that when you're done editing and have exported, get the FCPx project file down to a small file that references the original footage but doesn't contain a bunch of render and proxy files.

Is that done by deleting generated files? I’ve been trying to figure out how to have a general template for the show, allowing me to drag new video/audio in without having to rebuild it every week… but the file size keeps growing
