(October 31, 2024) TEAC has rolled out a new addition to its Reference 500 Series: the HA-507 pure analog headphone amplifier and preamplifier. Priced at $1,999, this compact powerhouse isn’t just about sound—it's a showcase of TEAC’s premium audio engineering wrapped in a sleek, desktop-friendly design.

At first glance, the HA-507 might not scream “power,” but looks can be deceiving. According to TEAC, the HA-507 packs a robust dual-mono configuration with 6.7 watts of output power per channel into 32 Ohms when using the balanced output. That’s promising driving capability for a unit of this size, and with a frequency response range that stretches from 10 Hz to 150 kHz, the company has positioned this amp to handle everything from pulsing bass to the subtlest high notes with clarity and punch. Paired with TEAC’s UD-507 DAC, you can create an analog-digital duo that tackles your favorite tracks with dedicated, high-quality signal handling from start to finish.

Not surprisingly, TEAC didn’t cut corners on the HA-507's construction. The amp’s fully balanced design is supported by an impressive dual-mono power supply with separate windings for left and right channels, not to mention two substantial toroidal transformers to keep the audio signal clean and responsive. The result? Well, according to TEAC, listeners can expect a dynamic and detailed soundstage that remains stable even as the volume climbs.

Designed for versatility, the HA-507 includes a variety of outputs to suit any listening preference. On the balanced side, you’ll find both an XLR 4-pin and a 4.4mm Pentaconn connector. If unbalanced is more your style, there’s a standard 6.3mm headphone jack and a 3.5mm option, ensuring compatibility with nearly any headphone model you throw at it. And for those moments you need a bit of a boost, a switchable gain setting (high/mid/low) lets you dial in the perfect output level based on your headphones’ impedance.

But TEAC didn’t stop at the headphone amp side of things. As a preamp, the HA-507 also incorporates the company’s TEAC-QVCS Advanced volume control, a ladder resistor network that adjusts volume in precise 0.25dB increments. According to TEAC, this system delivers smoother volume transitions without sacrificing tonal accuracy, making it ideal for both personal and loudspeaker listening.

The HA-507’s compact A4-sized chassis, made from rugged aluminum with a semi-floating top plate, promises durability without compromising style. Underneath, stressless metal feet offer three-point support for stability on audio racks or desks, and its fanless design promotes natural heat dissipation, keeping things cool during long listening sessions. And if you’re looking for one more touch of convenience, the HA-507 comes with a motorized volume control and dedicated remote, so you can manage levels without leaving your seat.

Rounding out the design is a choice of finishes—classic silver or stealthy black. Classy, right?

With 18,800 μF of capacitance per channel and Schottky diodes to keep power management on point, TEAC says the result is a low-feedback, low-distortion power supply circuit that enhances imaging and clarity across the frequency range.

Available in January 2025 for $1,999, the HA-507 can be purchased from TEACUSA.com or visit TEAC.JP.INT to find a local dealer.
