Hello,

I am new to the forum and I am trying to get my new UMIK-1 to work properly. I am having a problem with the SPL meter function reading ~90db in a silent room. See attached picture.

I am using REW V.5.19 and I have entered my cal file from miniDSP. Please see attached cal file.

Is my mic defective or did I do something wrong.

try calibration file,
Unique Calibration File Download

All UMIK-1 are calibrated with a unique calibration file. In addition, a unique auto-generated 90-degree calibration file for use with surround system applications. To download the calibration files, look for the 7 digit Serial Number found on the body of the microphone.

  1. Enter the serial number in the form below (three digits then four digits e.g. 700-XXXX).
  2. Your calibration files will automatically download in most browsers. If not, click on the links provided to manually download
minidsp page

Thanks for the reply. I have the calibration files from miniDSP and one is loaded in REW. I posted the calibration file in my first entry.

So I am not sure why the microphone reports ~90db in a slient room with REW.

Faulty Mic perhaps. Can you run REW with another mic, even an onboard laptop or anything.

Try removing the quotes on the sensitivity entry in the cal file.

I am having the exact same problem.. tried removing the quotes around the line with sensitivity.. didn't help in my case.

I do not have another mic to test with on this PC but I do have another laptop I can try in a bit.

Removing the quotes in the cal file did not work as well.

I have tried both 32 and 64 bit flavors of REW 5.19 and had the same results. I also tried REW 5.20 RC5 with same result.

I have made a support ticket with miniDSP and waiting to see what they have to say.

I am thinking of trying a UMIK-2(if I can get it) and see if it does the same result.

It seems like your sensitivity factor (-40.06dB) is also very low like mine (-39.88dB). I have made a support ticket at miniDSP too - let's share any replies we get here? :)

They replied back to me and the calibration file was wrong. They made a new one with a fixed sensitivity factor. Probably the same happened with yours.

I also received an email from miniDSP indicating the calibration file has been fixed. This resolved my issue.

Thanks to all who tried to help.

Can you post what they changed? before/after?
thank you
Astolfo

I have 4 microphones, umik-1 is calibrated by cross spectrum labs, dayton audio factory, sonarworks also factory, audysey is calibrated by me. at umik-1 i have never used factory calibration. here example with measurements from different microphones.
