Hi All
I have a Dell desktop PC , 2017 model with an additional Nvidia Geforce GTX 1070 graphics card. I use Windows 10. I have been making subwoofer sweeps since 2023 with no problems. I use a Umik 1 and REW version 5.31.3. I also have a Minidsp 2by4 HD
I plug the HDMI cable into the Nvidia dedicated graphics card and connect this to a dedicated AV processor
I have been having these errors for 2-3 weeks. In that time I have replaced the Umik Cable, no change, replaced the HDMI cable no change, Changed the USB port on the computer no change. I have changed from using Asio4all to Java no change.

Error messages excessive distortion, over spl, headroom in red, It happens when I do a test run with generator and the inbuilt SPL meter. It is fine when I check levels in the measurement screen yet has problems when I take the sweep, no headroom, even error messages that the acoustic timing reference is too high. I am also getting some higher that usual results at times in the distortion menu

I have an older version of REW 5.20.14, on a laptop and using REW on the laptop , with the same umnik1 and cables, does not have the same issues. I much prefer to use the desktop PC if possible. The question is is my pc broken and if so is it the graphics card, or has there been an update to REW that is causing problems?

When not using REW my desktop PC, it usually works fine, although several times lately the sound has stopped and the sound icon is muted or not found when watching a youtube video and needs a restart to get sound back.

I have screen dumped some examples of the error messages. This one happens when over 84 db and stays in error until you restart that menu.

This is when check levels in teh measurement window, appears to be all good, until you take the actual sweep. Then no headroom

Thanks for any suggestions

Most likely the Windows input volume for the UMIK has been set to 100%, boosting the mic level and causing clipping. Lower the Windows input volume setting.

HI John

Thanks it is on 100, is there an approximate setting in % it should be set on? Currently not set up, will adjust tomorrow

Regards

Kevin
