(March 30, 2023) After pouring over XGIMI’s MoGo 2 and MoGo 2 Pro launch day press kit, two things became immediately obvious. One, the company absolutely nailed the projectors’ price points. Landing at $399 (MoGo 2) and $599 (MoGo 2 Pro), XGIMI has seriously juicy bait on the hook. And two, it’s becoming more and more tempting to buy a portable projector, even if it might not see regular use – the level of convenience delivered for the cost just makes sense!
Those thoughts aside, today is launch day for two new products developed by XGIMI. If you’re a regular at AV NIRVANA, you’ll probably remember we reviewed the company’s Halo 1080p LED Portable Projector in late 2021. While more expensive than models in the MoGo line, Halo delivered on its promise of competent wireless (both source and power) performance. So much so, that I purchased one for my daughter to use on her college campus.
The all-new MoGo 2 and MoGo 2 Pro projectors bring compact “throw it in your backpack” performance to the forefront. And while they don’t have onboard rechargeable batteries, they stand as the first XGIMI projectors to support external portable power banks. That means either model can be connected to any 65 Watt external power bank, and operate in Eco Mode. So, technically speaking, the new MoGo 2 series can easily be picked up and moved around your home or used just about anywhere you’d like to take it.
XGIMI says improvements have been made across the board, from brightness to clarity and sound to ease of use. Both models use XGIMI’s in-house light engine (25,000 hours of estimated operating time), which works in coordination with high-transmission coated lenses to reduce light loss and produce up to 400 ISO lumens. While support for 4K isn’t in the fold, they’re still capable of delivering an HD experience with 720p (MoGo 2) and 1080p (MoGo 2 Pro) resolutions. All of the resulting pixels are graced with coverage of up to 90% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, and grounded by color reproduction designed to match the D65 standard used by Hollywood’s post-production engineers.
On the sound front, XGIMI says the MoGo 2 series has received a notable bump from the last generation, sporting dual 8 Watt speaker units. These units are deployed on either side of the projector housing, flanking a rear “transparent bass diaphragm window,” for a wide and evenly deployed sound field.
The MoGo 2 ships with XGIMI’s Intelligent Screen Adaptation (Smart ISA 1.0), which automatically aligns a projected image to the edge of a screen. During use, ISA 1.0 intelligently avoids obstacles during correction while engaging keystone correction (+/-40 degrees) and autofocus. The MoGo 2 Pro improves upon ISA 1.0 with Smart ISA 2.0. Once positioned, ISA 2.0 can achieve multi-angle automatic keystone correction and focus adjustments without a user’s input. Additionally, ISA 2.0 includes Intelligent Eye Protection, a safety dimming mode that’s engaged when a person or pet crosses in front of the projector.
Other notable features include Google's latest smart TV operating system (Android TV 11.0), four different audio modes, and a remote control.
The MoGo 2 Pro will retail for $599 and the MoGo 2 will retail for $399, with full availability, including at Best Buy, beginning on April 25th. AV NIRVANA has a MoGo 2 Pro sample in hand and is currently evaluating its performance. A full review is coming soon... we'll link here when it gets published.
