UHD is a great option if you don’t have a good, existing tone mapping solution in place for a projector. Before I added the Lumagen I used the UHD downloads quite frequently.
That's what I normally pick for my theater with the projector

I like the fact they have a projector centric version of 4K. Two projectors back (my first 4K), issues with HDR drove me to the edge. I wish I’d had 4K (no HDR) on hand!

My 97" Sony seems to do really well with HDR. It's the brightest I've experienced with HDR thus far. I'm pretty sure I'm glad I'm out of the projector club now.

The movie series collections are a good deal... 4,5, or 6 movies for 34.99.

Yes. Excellent news. We’ll have coverage next week, though the cat’s out of the bag, so to speak. Great move by Kscape to let Variety carry this story to the commercial side of thing first

This is good news for Kscape

Wow, I really like the idea of seeing an older movie at the theater every now and again. Good news. We have a local Epic theater, so I’ll keep an eye out for offerings.

I wish I could bring myself to cough up the cash for a Kaleidescape. I’m not a collector. I’d really like it just for rentals.

Yeah back in the day we started with VHS HiFi to laserdisc, DVD, BD etc. Now Kscape, it's definitely for the diehards that want the best possible audio and video.

Nice that in most/many cases with Kaleidescape it’s an upgrade instead of a replacement.

It should pick the highest your system supports by default, as Todd said 4k HDR is the highest if it's available
Hey guys, quick question....got 150in theatre screen / JVC NZ7 Projector / KS system the latest version / Audio maxed ceiling surround 2 SW etc....I have been watching mainly streamed 4K UHD and/or HDR10 / Dolby Vision / Atmos - I have found that the clarity on my Sony Xr100x92 is immense, especially with HDR10 it seems....Will the Kalaedoscape system be a lot better than that on the projector with the 150in screen? What should my expectations be on this? I have also been told, that visually there is NOT a lot of difference, but Audio will be considerably better. I just wanted to get the opinion from anyone that owns the KS System and can clarify....eg; I was told that by someone who is technically sound but does not own a KS system, so I am not convinced of this feedback. I have already bought and am waiting for install, so i am invested! And I am looking fwd greatly to this experience. Trying to level expectations! Thanks a lot lads.

Will the Kalaedoscape system be a lot better than that on the projector with the 150in screen?
It will be better. The more noticeable improvement will be in audio quality. Video improvement will be more subtle - better sharpness, more vivid colors, etc. Streaming video has come a long way, for sure, but the Kaleidescape image is noticeably better. For someone coming from primarily streaming, the improvements you'll notice will be much more pronounced than someone coming from a disc-based system.

There are many other benefits to the system that I find myself appreciating the most:
  • Early access to disc quality weeks, often months, before the disc is available - but if you're coming from mostly streaming, the timing will be the same, just in higher quality.
  • Scripting - like making a music playlist of your favorite scenes from your favorite movies.
  • The simplicity of streaming with the quality of disc is really under appreciated.
  • Better interaction with the other components in your theater
    • if you have motorized masking, the Kaleidescape can control it
    • if you have smart lighting, the Kaleidescape has extra triggers in the content to control it
    • if you have a video processor, the Kaleidescape can send more detailed information to it
Of course, there will always be the downsides...nothing is as fun to use as the Kaleidescape now, and there are a few boutique studios who have not allowed Kaleidescape access to their content, or limited content.

Far more upside than downside, the Kaleidescape has become central and integral to my home cinema experience. My advice is that if any of those integrations with other components in your theater are interesting to you, and you're not already using Control 4 or one of those expensive control systems, dig into Home Assistant. It's the DIY equivalent and can do everything the other systems can do and more, and you can get started very quickly and easily. I bought a $99 Home Assistant Green and have it controlling things throughout my house based on the Kaleidescape integration.

There are some films where the disc release is a significantly smaller file size. You'll see a difference there.

Honestly, I think the Kscape experience exceeds all expectations.

As a movie fan, you'll love starting and stopping movies. It's all so fast.

You'll also love the buying experience - including the vast amount sales on content that Kscape routinely offers.

The phone app is also A+. Make sure you get it... you can control the entire playback experience with the app.

I agree with everything Travis said, btw.

That will come in handy for you. Technically, you're supposed to experience movie downloads with a Terra system + GB internet speeds landing in the realm of 15 min or so... mine have been all over the map tho. Some are super fast, some are more in the 30 min range.

Do you have a large collection of Blu-rays/DVDs/4K UHD discs? If so, you'll definitely want to buy an external drive.

I actually don’t - I haven’t bought a dvd or blue ray for years! I have 340 ish purchased movies on Apple TV - but obv can’t transfer them. So I’ll start again, but i’ll download the absolute classics - whilst I am out house, and they’ll hopefully have downloaded by time I’m back home - is that the best way to do it? It will take me a while to get through that “list” - so I can really see / hear / feel the difference with K system .
