I’m from a car audio background so an o-scope is pretty normal for setting your amplifier gains. I use a pro-audio amp for my HT subs. Starting the process of resetting my amplifier gains with an oscilloscope. Found an article on it and am going to follow it. Started tonight by playing a 40hz test tone and turning the volume up far past my normal listening to see if it clipped at all and it didn’t. Curious to see how this will turn out. Anyone ever try this instrument in their HT or listening room?

I have used an o-scope on the signal side to set gain structure, then check output side for distortion out of the amp. On the input side the load can be unplugged as not to damage anything. On the output side, if the load is connected, I would recommend short bursts. 3-5 seconds. If you are testing the output as an open circuit, the time frame isn't an issue.
