Hello!
First, I run all Linux. That makes me weird. I know. OS: Ubuntu Studio. DAW is Reaper. I also have MIxbus 32 C.

I record voice over in my bedroom. I haven't done any room treatment or analysis. I have installed REW. My microphone is a Rode PodMic. Yes it's budget. But I like simple dynamic microphones. I don't like pop filters, shockmounts or anything that gets in the way. If I could have a Rode PodMic set up with a better dynamic microphone I would get it. A simple Mic stand. What I like about the Rode Pod Mic is that I can easily place it anywhere.

I am also a student of audio engineering.

I haven't set up a mastering chain. Right now all I do is put a limiter on to stop peaks. I am also reading the Reaper manual. I guess that I am a long way from being happy.

I have been using Reaper for a few years. That doesn't make me a power user by any means, but I will help if I can. Be sure and check out the Tukan and Saike JS plugin repositories. There is really no need to purchase vst's with all that's available via Reaper's internal JS scripting language. All reliable, efficient, and sonically solid.

Thank you! I love Reaper! In the past I tried Mixcraft, FL Studio and Renoise. But now Reaper and Mixbus 32 C are the two DAWs that I run in Linux. I understand the philosophy of Reaper: it's a tool box like a programming language.

Mixbus 32C reminds me of Reaper with the WT_Imperial Theme... Have fun...

Recordings without a Pop Filter will have various noises caused by air whooshing through the mic grille and internal foam. This is sometimes used for artistic effect. e.g. by people who squawk from inaudible to elephant with not even a passing interest in notes..... Get absorption around your head and the mic..... Polyester duvets...... If you want a clear and articulate sound use a popper.
