I highly recommend the you try the Westvleteren 12 at least once if you find it. It's stupid expensive though. I paid around 18 dollars for one bottle while I lived in Germany. I feel like it will be more expensive back here in the states though

I see it super infrequently on some of my beer groups but I'm always too late to trade for it/buy it. I don't think I'd pay that much for one however considering how much great beer is available locally for less. I sometimes pay that much for barrel aged stuff though
I've read that Abt 12 is a very good clone of Westvleteren 12 as well but I'd still like to compare them myself of course.
You guys are posting up some serious brews, made with LOVE. I enjoy those from time to time, but this $8/six pack of mass produced ale is chillin' my 95 degree late spring afternoon. The 9% ABV is chilling my attitude.
Has the expected biscuit notes indicative of New Belgian Brewing, with a medium-bodied flavor that belies the alcohol bite. Not an after lawn mowing, back porch, pound a few down down with the boys ale. This one is sipped.
Edit: This ale has a high quality finish, easily leading into another beer. Does not have the weight in flavor nor impact that one expects from the Imperial IPA style, but comes across to me as a medium between citrus-balanced pale ale and the more bitter IPA style. There is nothing harsh about the hop IBU or the ABV bite, just a pleasant mellowness. The most drinkable Imperial IPA I've tried.
Have a new favorite oatmeal stout.... Absolutely delicious! Brewed in Wash DC... I doubt it has any sort of distribution outside of the B/W Metro Area. The brewery has a pub... I'm thinking it might be time for a little field trip!
My favorite beer isn't made anymore. Oculto was my #1. There are a few others that I like as well, but not as much. Dark beer has to be nice and cold for me to drink. Once it starts getting warm, it taste nasty like budwiper.
Went to the Grapevine Craft Brewery on Saturday for their 2nd anniversary. Only had two beers - Nightwatch Oatmeal Stout (on nitro) and two half pours of Witherspoon Barrel-Aged the Master Coffee Stout. They were pretty good
While I was in Manhattan this week I hit one of my favorite Irish Pubs... it's in NoMad over on 34th (between 5th and Park Ave). For those of you not familiar with Manhattan, it's a few blocks to the east if the Empire State Building. Not the most endearing of neighborhoods. Kind of sterile and the street really empties out as it gets late. But, worth it!
Anyhow, it's called The Long Haul: Irish Pub and Grocery.
The Guinness is legit. Seriously good. So buttery smooth... as close to what I've experienced across Ireland. And the food (if you can stomach paying $20 for a burger) is equally good. I had a an egg/bacon/cheddar burger that was delicious.
Made my way over to one of my local growler bars/bottle shops on Monday for a special bottle release. Walked in the door at noon when the bottles released and a few things I wanted were already sold out - Martin House Acheron and Community Macallan Barrel Aged Legion. I guess I should have showed up well before noon lol.
Ended up buying 1/ea Avery Uncle Jacob's Stout, Firestone Walker Bravo & Parabola, Oskar Blues BA Ten Fidy, Prairie/Evil Twin BA Bible Belt, Prairie Pirate Noir & Prairie Noir, and 4x 16oz tallboys of Epic Double Barrel Big Bad Baptist.
There were a few more bottles available that I would have liked to have purchased but I'd already spent more than enough money
