I know Bose is the butt of a lot of jokes, but the company's QuietComfort 35 is a frequent recipient of industry praise. If I were in the market for noise cancelling/wireless headphones, I'd definitely give these a look.

Right now, you can buy the QuietComfort 35 on eBay for $260 (regular $350) as a factory refurb.

Great deal!

I typically never buy refurbished items. In my mind, I figure they broke once they most likely will break again..

But then I again, I may be 100% off on this.. Just not sure on refurbished stuff. Maybe folks here can give their opinion as to whether refurbished equipment is worth getting?

I purchased referb speakers years ago... never hand an issue. Also, lots of folks buy referb gear from Accessories4Less.

That being said, both of my daughters received refurb phones through AT&T's wireless insurance plan (which, is a story that needs its own thread), and they were basically junk out of the box.

So, I guess it depends on what kind of refurb item you're buying. In the case of headphones...there's a good chance its an open box / return.

I just hate dealing with returns. The hassles, the paperwork, the phone calls, the return shipping, etc. That is my main concern with defective items especially if it is a refurb item.

My own thoughts are a little different on refurbished products. In my mind they have now been repaired and gone over with a fine tooth comb. Highly unlikely to have an issue again. Ive bought several refurbished items over the years and never had a failure in them yet. Ive even got an old Sansa Fuze mp3 player that is refurbished thats about 8 years old and it still works as good as new. Battery still lasts a week or more and sits in my motorcycle.

Thanks Tony and Todd. Very insightful thread here. I may have to rethink my refurbish thinking.. :)

I think it all depends on the source of the product. If you're buying direct from a manufacturer OR a reputable dealer, then you're likely in good hands.

If you're buying through a shady site... or, in the case of AT&T's sub-contracted "phone insurance," then you might be in for an uncomfortable ride.

That is a good point Todd. I am kind of skeptical of ebay.. but I guess it depends on the seller..

Thats true, remember the last of the SherwoodNewcastle R972's that were available from another 3rd party seller (not accessories4less) many seemed to be refurbished units and a lot of complaints came in from people who bought them from that other seller site.

The key is "Factory Refurbished." If it doesn't say that, run away, run away very fast!

I have one of those R972's from AC4L, no problems. That place does FACTORY returns, and as Tony and Tonto said, the factory goes over them with a fine toothed comb. Regular production units do not get that level of attention.

If you buy refurb, makes sure it is factory refurb from an authorized dealer.
