I fixed my very first cassette a couple of weeks ago canabalizing some cheap used ones that I bought at the thrift store. I put the fifth cassette in and pressed fastforward (which was going to be followed by a rewind) and nothing happened. I looked and there was no tape between the reels. It was all on the left reel. Thankfully, this shell had screws so I took it apart and confirmed that the right reel was missing its pins that held it to the reel. I sacrificed an old Led Zep tape and used its reel. What an exercise that was. I lost that little pin a number of times on the floor trying to snap it in the notch to hold the leader. Follow the red arrow. I persisted and kept my patience (didn't know how I did that) and got it together. Than I had some issues with role unreeling a little bit and managed to get that sorted out.
This was the cassette I saved. I tested it and it worked well.
