Crash during startup (Mac OS X 10.10)

The program always crashes during startup when the progress bar at the bottom says "Initializing...".
I tried the beta as well as older versions. I also tried updating Java in case it matters. No luck so far.

Can anyone help me?

There is some sort of compatibility problem with the later versions of OS X 10.10, it seems it may be in the packager/launcher somewhere (though I have seen other applications suffering what looks like the same crash - Android Studio, for example). I have emailed the packager support folk to see if they have any solution.

The packager support team have advised that this is a 10.10 bug that can be fixed (somewhat unexpectedly) by installing Java 6, see https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572?locale=en_US
