DUNE Pt 2 - who has seen it?

Yes, completely agree.
The only time I went to an IMAX theatre was during a trip to New York City years ago (2008), watched “Eagle Eye” with Shia LaBeouf and Michelle Monaghan and the sound was so loud I winced and cringed in my seat every time there was an action sequence. My wife covered her ears during the entire movie and sweared she would never see a movie at an IMAX theatre ever again.
We have one IMAX room in the area and I have yet to decide how I will watch Dune 2, do I try it in IMAX or watch it in my local cinema with laser projection/atmos. Need to see Dune 2 before Wednesday as that is when Godzilla x Kong will take over the premium screening rooms here in France.
I'm both glad and sad to have so many confirmations of my experiences with IMAX films. Glad in the respect that it confirms what I've heard. Sad because it shouldn't be that way and it must drive people away.

Finally saw Dune 2 today. Saw it on the only IMAX screen in Luxembourg. The screen size is quite small compared to the big IMAX theatres but it was still big enough for me and anyway it is the closest IMAX option 35 min from where I live and as it was shot in IMAX, thought I would give it a shot. Glad to report the sound was great, it was not too loud and the bass was insane (in a good way). The picture quality was also outstanding. Does it justify the 7 USD price difference with a laser projection screen with Dolby Atmos sound though? Not sure.
The movie is just amazing, loved the first one and thought this one was even better. Outstanding acting all across the board, gorgeous cinematography and the music/sound mixing is fantastic. Highly recommended and can’t wait for the 4K disc.

Nice, glad you enjoyed it, I think I'll wait till it comes on streaming

I feel like I'm making a mistake by missing this one in a commercial theater... I might need to allocate some time this week

It's nice to read a positive IMAX report!

I’m kinda bummed we missed it at the Cinerama here, was looking forward to it but we couldn’t coordinate schedules. I’ll wait and watch at home at this point.

Is the cinerama a specialized theater?

It was originally built as a cinerama - three projectors for massive images. It was bought by Paul Allen awhile back, shut down for the pandemic and the estate sold it to SIFF (Seattle International Film Festival) who cleaned it up, new screen, new digital projection (though the original projectors remain functional and in place). Massive screen - 98' I believe. Fantastic seating. Brilliant sound and image. We saw Wonka there, was the first film they ran after reopening. It's the only theater I've found here worth going for the presentation, though there are several independent cinemas I like going to for the film selection, outside of the mainstream.

That's huge

It really is a glorious place. The image and sound are pristine, and when we went to see Wonka we got a chocolate-popcorn, two candies, a soda and two waters for under $20, and the audience was quiet and respectful.

It's ruined other commercial theaters for me.

Wish I had something like that closer to me
