I am in the planning stages of my home theatre/listening room. I am utilizing a small 2500 cu/ft room in my basement for this project. When finished, it will be a fully treated room using REW for my final tweeks. I will initially be utilizing it to smooth out my living room response which is where my audio gear currently resides.
I am currently shopping for a laptop to dedicate to room measurement tests etc.
This will be a full DIY project, start to finish, with some advice and guidance from pros in the acoustic field.
Im anxious to dive in but this project will probably take me close to a year to complete.

Welcome aboard AV NIRVANA keep us posted and share some photos if you see fit

Thanks Tony
Im tossing around the idea on a series of You tube videos on the project but havent decided on that yet.
Pics will probably be posted though as they are less time consuming than editing video.

Glad to have you with us... looking forward to hopefully getting to see your project progress here at AV NIRVANA.

Welcome to AV NIRVANA! Sounds like you've got some fun times ahead!

Right then, laptop and Umik 1 mic on its way. With any luck it will arrive as scheduled, not holding my breath.
Also have Dr Floyd Toole's Sound Reproduction 3rd ed. on its way. Gives me a good read to get my mind focused on end goal while I wait for warmer weather to begin demo in the basement room.
So far i'm $800 into this rabbit hole and only one step across the start line.

Welcome aboard, glad to have you with us.

Just received Dr. Toole's book "Sound Reproduction 3rd Ed."
I read Ch. 1 on Amazon Kindle when I placed my order and Ch. 4.10 on diaphragmatic absorbers today. So far, WOW, this is going to be a great read.
Also received the laptop and mic so took my first measurement. I will try to attach it. I don't think it's much to look at but I know little at this point other than I need longer cables. In addition, my mic stand doesn't fit the threads of the Umik mic holder. I will have to find an adaptor or make one.
If there is a better way to post the file, please let me know. Even app based laptops are not my forte'.

Lest I forget, Thanks for all of the Welcomes. So far the REW threads have been Invaluable, certainly worthy of a few cups of joe.

I just started a thread about this book... https://www.avnirvana.com/threads/f...-presents-3rd-edition-discussion-thread.8267/

Before I move this to a more appropriate category, I received the longer HDMI cable and am now able to reach the money seat. I took, or tried to take, a full spectrum measurement. I will post it below but I have two questions.

First, is the format I posted posted above as well as below readable to anyone. It opens in REW for me and I am unable to open on my phone. I haven't looked for an app to possibly open it. If there is a better option, please let me know.

Secondly, if you can read the file, what the heck am I doing wrong? The low frequency is 40db down on the scale. Almost unreadable. I don't believe it actually sent a signal to the sub as it was not audible as in the first measurement. I'm sure it's a setting or preference issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can open it in REW with no issues, not sure about a phone. My best guess is you have your mains set to Large, which means it won't send the signal to your sub. Make sure your mains are set to Small and the xover at whatever you prefer, then try the measurement.

Thank you for the reply Sonnie, at least I know my measurements can be seen.

Well, I checked my input setup on pre/pro, everything looks good.

I now am getting no signal to pre/pro, all of the output is coming out of speakers in laptop.
The Generator tab does not give me a green arrow and Measure tab gives me a "no output" error.
I found MIDI checked in comms, unchecked it. Restarted REW and now have a generator tone but measurement still comes through laptop speakers. :gah:

I believe I'll get back to this tomorrow after I've slept on it.

I wonder if using an active HDMI cable somehow screwed up my audio output? :ponder:

I'm not familiar with active HDMI cables, but if it is simply to help the signal over a long stretch, it shouldn't affect anything.

It can sometimes be a bit tricky to make sure that you are seeing your pre/pro in your sound properties on your computer, and that REW sees it in ASIO4All or FlexASIO (which I believe is easier to work with). If either your computer and or REW does not see the pre/pro, you will have issues like you are having.

If you are having issues getting REW to work properly, I would definitely post in the REW support forum for assistance.

After a few more hours of trying to figure this problem out, I posted my query to a new thread in the support forum. Literally, 5 minutes after posting, I found the problem. Man do I feel like such a dope.
Good news is, I can now see a full measurement. Thanks for the help.

Been there done that... many times... sometimes that's what it takes... a little dopiness.
