(March 11, 2025) One of the great joys of covering the AV industry has been getting to know the talented, infectiously passionate, and friendly folks who pour their passion into products, projects, and initiatives. Today's news involves a major move for one of those individuals, Jason Dustal. I've had the pleasure of knowing Jason for years, having watched him put his skills into action at professional events while also interviewing him about products and technologies and chatting offline about tech. He's one of the good guys – endlessly friendly and knowledgeable – and we're all better for it.

Yesterday, I received notification that our friends at madVR were on the cusp of announcing a major move that will undoubtedly make them stronger. That move involves Jason Dustal leaving his long-time position at AVPro and joining madVR as a Senior Field Specialist. With more than 25 years of experience in calibration, training, and engineering support, Jason's wealth of expertise will enhance madVR Labs’ growing lineup of video processing technologies.

Jason is widely respected in the AV industry, having spent nearly a decade at AVPro Edge, where he trained and supported customers worldwide on advanced AV solutions. He is also a leading voice in industry standards, serving as co-chair for CEDIA’s RP28 "HDMI System Design and Verification" and RP23 "Immersive Video Design" initiatives—both of which focus on improving video quality and system performance for home cinemas. Additionally, he is an ISF Level 3 calibrator, CTS-certified professional, and a CEDIA-certified instructor, recognized for his technical knowledge and commitment to best practices.

In his new role at madVR Labs, Jason will be responsible for product installation and support, video calibration, onsite and classroom training, sales engineering, and brand advocacy. His expertise will be instrumental in supporting madVR Labs' Envy Core, Envy Pro MK2, and Envy Extreme video processors, which deliver a range of benefits, including HDR tone mapping, 8K upscaling, and MotionAI technology.

Jason will also continue his role as lead ISF instructor at the ISF training facility in St. Petersburg, Florida, where he will further elevate training programs for video professionals. His ongoing work with CEDIA standards committees ensures that he remains at the forefront of industry advancements, continuing to shape the future of video system design and calibration.

“I am incredibly excited to join madVR Labs and pursue my passion for delivering extreme video excellence in home cinema," said Jason Dustal. "madVR Labs is redefining what’s possible in video processing, and I look forward to contributing to its continued success.”

Richard Litofsky, Co-Founder & CEO of madVR Labs, welcomes Jason to the team, stating, “Jason’s expertise, stellar reputation, and deep industry relationships make him a fantastic asset in supporting our expanding global network of dealers and integrators. His leadership, passion, and commitment to excellence will help us continue setting new standards in home cinema video performance and customer support. We’re excited to have Jason on board and look forward to the significant impact he will have.”

As madVR Labs continues to grow as a leader in video processing, it's been recognized on the 2024 Inc. 5000 list of Fastest-Growing Privately Held Companies in America, ranking 1,138th. For more information, visit www.madvrenvy.com.

Todd, you wrote beautifully and very accurately about our mutual friend, Jason Dustal!

Other than being an exceptionally good person, and always helpful and friendly, Jason is one of the most technically knowledgeable A/V professional's we have the pleasure to know.

Todd has worked very closely with me for almost two decades at our annual TV Shootout® Evaluation events. Jason designed our complete HDMI distribution system, with 8 HDMI inputs for all of our content, and 16 Outputs to deliver the full bandwidth to all of the TVs, and the reference monitors, and for the second room where some of the media news reporters sit while covering the TV Shootout.

Jason also completely sets up everything, and stayed through the entire starting to end of our 2-day events so he could control the HDMI distribution equipment/system to match each presenters presentations. So we have a top professional 8x16 HDMI 2.1distribution system with the full uncompressed 48Gbps bandwidth.

Jason has also participated with the professional calibrations of the TVs that are competing, and separately Jason has made several technical video presentations at our TV Shootout events.

Thanks Robert!

He’s done an amazing job at those events. When the rubber hits the road, people’s true colors shine, and Jason has been amazing under in those circumstances!
