Let's Build a Dedicated Home Theater System... for $1500

You'd be surprised at how difficult it can be to get review gear... :-/. Sometimes super easy. Sometimes it's like shouting into a well.

You're right I probably would be surprised. It just seemed a good idea but then I wouldn't be doing the work involved either. :whistling:

Ain't that the truth!

This is a very interesting thread. I have recommended two of the AVR suggestions to a friend that has been asking.

So what is the final system wrapping up to be? Ditching the towers for monitors means adding in the cost of stands and/or mounts.

I really think ditching the towers is a huge sacrifice.

I really think ditching the towers is a huge sacrifice.

It doesn't have to be provided the subs can handle 80-100 Hz and below.

Have we settled on the subs yet? Seems the only place the budget can be trimmed is the speakers/subs. Maybe going with towers and one sub, crossed over real low, like 40-60 Hz., could get us by?

So I guess this would be the rundown...

Wow, goal is dialed in tight, cables included!

Dump one sub and add a screen?

I like it.

That would push us just beyond $1500, but well within the realm of reasonable!

this is cheaper than what I paid for my first HT and definitely a better set up. Very interesting for sure.

My Definitive Technology 5.1 speaker setup (4 bookshelf size speakers, center channel, and sub-woofer) cost more (on sale). My real first attempt at a decent surround sound setup like 8 yrs ago.

You would be the envy of many with this as a starter system

I agree, if we are going to offer an AV NIRVANA $----.-- entry HT, it really does have to be a nice system. And a complete system. The price should be secondary. I think we have come up with a system that will please a lot of people entering the arena. Not $1500, but nice enough for us to put our name on!

Should we make this a sticky in the appropriate forum? Don't know exactly how to present this to people. Shave off all the posts & just list it?

Something like:

"AV NIRVANA $1500 Starter Home Theater Recommendation"

Well, if we're able to actually get all of this gear together (which would take a few months), I'd write up as review system and link back to the thread so folks can see the discussion.

I've had my head buried trying get the SuperCinema 3D Array XL review posted...so haven't devoted any time to reaching out this week. But, I'll put feelers out and see where it gets us!

This could be the discussion thread for the $1500 system (add "Recommendation for..." to the title). Then have another thread with just the system listed.

Not having a lot of luck getting a response on loaner gear :-/.

Not always easy to pull non-new release gear. I like this thread concept. If I bump the budget, I think we should give it a whirl?
