Hello, I'm just about all set to start rew/ minidsp. My laptop doesn't have an hdmi port.
My options are vga to hdmi or usb to hdmi. What adapter should I buy? Or if that won't work , is there another way to connect my laptop to avr

It depends what you want to do. The computer's headphone output can be connected to an analog input on the AVR to access the left and right channels, whether the sub is driven will depend on the bass management settings on the AVR. If you are on Windows and want to access the individual channels of a multichannel system HDMI is the most convenient route. A VGA to HDMI adaptor would not help. It is the multichannel PCM audio capabilities of the HDMI interface that are used so any adaptor needs to support multichannel linear PCM audio. I haven't used any myself so can't make any recommendation, sorry.

I am thinking of saving REW's measurement sweep to a WAV file from the signal generator, including a timing reference... Put the WAV file on a usb jump drive and play it directly from your AVR... I am pretty sure there are instructions about this somewhere on AV NIRVANA... I am guessing there is also a way to do this via your local LAN via ethernet or wifi...
