Onkyo RZ50 Owners thread

Thanks for the update. This is excellent
news for single sub however, I don't see how much a difference it will make. I've been told usually for dlbc to really shine you'd need more than 2 subs.
My lx505 may go back because no telling if pioneer will get the dlbc and if it does won't work in my case.
I might get by with dlbc having 2 subs. I have till Saturday to decide on the return lol.
The RZ70 (and possibly its Pioneer brethren?) have recently been seen discounted substantially.

They are beasts of AVR, with substantial power, as well as the addition of dual sub channels, support for DLBC and future ART support likely.

If you can stretch up to that price bracket, it is good value.

I am staying put with my Integra DRX3.4 and its weenie amps (which handle surround/height fine, but I use external amps for the fronts), until ART is released to the mass market... then I will see what I upgrade to, so I can deploy ART in my setup.

I may get my stored tx sr805 out and enjoy it minus Atmos until black Friday or when the rz70/lx805 drops more in price.
I'm enjoying my lx505 but have that itch for dlbc.

Just curious: how much of a benefit is Dirac over AccuEQ? I currently have an RZ840 and am thinking about upgrading to an RZ50 simply because of Dirac. Other than that there are hardly any differences in features. Is Dirac worth the $999 that an RZ50 is going for on Amazon?

Over AccuEQ? It's notable, for sure. Of course, much of it depends on how good your room sounds on its own. If you have the makings of a stellar acoustic environment (by design or by accident ;-), the impact is lessened. But if you get Dirac set up correctly, it will likely give you a much larger and more cohesive soundstage.

DLBC is also a game changer.

Keep in mind, you'll need to have a Umik-1 (or similar microphone) on hand along with some sort of microphone stand with an arm. Also, Dirac is run using a computer.

It's not as user-friendly as something like AccuEQ. But, if you get it, we can start a thread and walk through the dos and don'ts.

My open basement is anything but a stellar acoustic environment. I like all the tweaking involved. I'm familiar with REW and have a Umik-1 that I use with my miniDSP to dial my subs in. I think maybe if I really want to move forward with this, I should save up and skip the RZ50 and go with the RZ70 instead, as the 50 doesn't have DLBC?

The RZ50 will have DLBC (not out of the box but eventually) but for one sub since the RZ50 preouts are shared. I am having first world problems going back and forth on whether I need DLBC and exchange my LX505 that I have until tomorrow to do so. Right now I am conflicted between the RZ70 and LX805 if I decide to move forward with DLBC.

If you have two subs, DLBC is super nice... what's the price difference?

An additional $1,000 for the avr and an additional $300 for dlbc.

One concern for me in spending so much on an avr is if you can get any glitches or bug after the return window or after warranty is up you are practically on your own. The sales/tech people are clueless half the the time.

Dirac is noticeably better in terms of dialogue intelligibility and the midrange clarity / imaging....

On the other hand AccuEQ was easy and quick to set up, and did also sound good... but It thought Dirac was definitely better.... (yes subjective! hard to quantify!)
