Pioneer Elite VSX-LX505 Owners Thread

Just started having my first real problem with my LX505 and that’s some center channel distortion. Swapped to a different speaker and cable as well as doing a reset and reloading Dirac but still the same issue. Also I’ve had to start power cycling almost every start up to get sound. I have an early, if not the first, unit that was launched for N.A. but I’m curious if anyone else has run into this. The power cycle thing was infrequent until I updated the firmware seeing if it helped with the sound. With the 805 coming soon I’m tempted to jump on that but also the new Nakamichi if I decide to downsize the footprint.

I've been watching the lx505. On sale now. The only reason I'd upgrade my xt32 would be for Dirac. I just don't know how much better it will be.

Asere: If you can get this AVR on sale, it's good bang for the buck. I found Dirac made a huge difference to the overall room sound in a positive way.
DragonRM: Hopefully your AVR is still under warranty so you can replace the unit. Apparently the LX805 has a very different sound, more neutral.

@Storm, With this receiver do you use Dirac with a PC only or is it like Audyssey were you let it do its thing placing the mic around with the internal chirps?

@Asere: Dirac Live has an app for the PC, MacOS, IOS and Android. You can also use the Pioneer app, which is a more simplified version. Only MCACC can be done with just the AVR. You have to move the mic around like Audyssey.

This means I can use my Android phone to calibrate the system without having to use a PC if I like?

Yes, indeed it does! I did my calibration using my iPhone.

Better to use the computer, then the Dirac/Pioneer app from what I’ve heard.

Yes, it is better to use a computer with all the mic positions for the best results, but you still get a pretty good result using a phone and the basic mic positions. I guess this also depends on what your room setup is like and how much correction is needed. There are a few good YouTube videos on using Dirac Live that are worth a look.

For example I have a 5.2.4 setup. Will it calibrate all the speakers using the phone?

It will do. Calibration still uses the supplied microphone plugged into the AVR to take the measurements as the phone is used just to control the setup and adjust the curves. Once done, it will upload the corrections to one of the slots in the AVR, the LX505 has three of these slots. You can use a better USB microphone, like an UMIK-1, plugged into a laptop if you are using the PC/MacOS version of Dirac Live.

Does the LX505 Dirac version have what is called Bass Control or DLBC?

For DLBC you need the LX805, that is for now the only Pioneer device with it.

How much better is having DLBC? Is DLBC like having Audyssey XT32?

Totally not comparable, that's like asking if a Boeing 747 is better then a Toyota Corolla.

I've been reading up on DLBC and there is also DLBC multi for more than one sub.
Does the lx505 calibrate only one sub or no subs since it doesn't have DLBC?

Please start reading what Dirac Live is also, it works for the entire 20-20k range at no additional costs unlike the Denon/Marantz variants.

Yeah the 505 should have the 3 year warranty.

I placed an order for the 505 but canceled it just now. The 805 can do DLBC Multi subs but with a paid apgrade from what I read. If the 505 can't do DLBC I figure my XT32 will do for now since it calibrates the subs and speakers.

The 505 calibrates the subs and speakers in much the same way that XT32 does

DLBC adds capbilities that XT32 doesn't have, and allows much better integration of large speakers and subs or multiple subs.

Now Dirac ART is here. Hopefully we can have it eventually on processors that aren't 10k+.

Hello, I'm interested in buying the LX 505.
I found this thread searching if I can connect my Hue sync Box with the HDMI out 2 on the LX 505.

@DragonRM was writing about on page one, but I can not find any information here if it is working now?

Thanks

I did get it to work at one point then I ended up going with a multi room setup for a bit so I had to repurpose the output again. Hopefully I’ll get it working again at some point but it’s a lower priority for me. Hopefully they’ll come out with a newer system at some point that has a 4k120+ pass through to make the setup easier :D

Hello ,always prefer Pioneer over other receiver brand since I already owned Denon and Yamaha and for me Pioneer have the best balance on stereo channel and surround channels. I just want to said that Dirac Live just made this receiver even sound better. My calibration set up was trough the PC ,is way better vs the app phone , I choose the 17 point measure calibration with my Dayton Audio UMM-6 USB Measurement Microphone. The only downside for me for the Elite 505 is the lack of independent crossover setting for each speaker since is a over a thousand dollars receiver like the Onkyo RZ50 that have this feature.
